yes it is the same for everyone but then you have to break it down to each player. mike mitchell for example. came out of ohio university and the MAC. he's been in the league a long time and in college didn't have to go against the type of players that guys from the SEC did. now change the rules on him and it makes a difference. LJ fort? same thing. he missed some crucial tackles in the run game when playing. Vince williams had trouble getting off blocks. he rushed the passer well though. he's not the greatest against the pass. alot of guys do some things well but not all. teach them all to tackle well and thats one less thing they have to worry about.

stripping the ball can be taught. so can tackling. joey porter wasn't a really good form tackler. he rushed the passer. our DE's in those days ate up blockers and made tackles for him. now we expect him to teach a different type of defense and style of play in this hybrid. all of this goes hand in hand. keith butler the same thing. he came from a different era. he's now no longer teaching as much as scheming this defense and these players. all of this may be small changes on the surface but in the grand scheme of the whole defense it snowballs. we have some players doing some things well and others not so well and we can't cover it up with who we have and what we are trying to do. i do agree with you about the scheme and out of position players, but i think all of this has something to do with it collectively. one hand doesnt know what the other is doing and it creates chaos in the whole system including tackling well. this intensifies the thing we here every year, communication on the defense. we are trying to cover up deficiencies of one player with another and yes that will get guys out of position.

The jags owned us because of coaching and the inability to stop the run.

Or maybe the Jags OL dominated the line of scrimmage and a 240 pd back

ran thru 220 lb Hybrid LB's like it was nothing. He abused the Steelers in both games.

Couldn't/ did not want to take on the big back.

I think you forgot Bell as a signing also take into account who they lost Posluszsy and Robinson they are big losses as compared to us Mitchell, Gay, Goldne, Spence. We are the winner here!!!!!!

Honestly why are we even worried about what Jacksonville is doing? Not sure why the OP is so obsessed with Jacksonville?

You might want to check on what the Jags did to us last year: whipped our ass twice both at our place and in the playoffs, and then there is this. Why worry, right?

Yeah I seen all that. Who cares? It's not like Jacksonville is a rival of ours. I could see some worry about a division opponent or even the Patriots considering our past performance against them, but who cares what Jacksonville is doing?

Rinse and repeat. People freak out every year even know the results dont ever back up their fears.

How many of these teams that "win" in FA ever go on to win the SB? Make the playoffs even.

Dumb ass Steelers, they know nothing compared to fans.

No, brother, technically I'm not sure Bell is "signed." Did he sign that offer or is he waiting until 1 week before the season starts like last year?

Well, funny you bring up the Eagles and free agency...didn't their free agent signings of Foles and Blunt contribute immensely to winning a ring last season? Would they have won it without those FA signings? Highly unlikely. So, I don't read anyone saying we should resemble the 90's Jets or Skins and sign the most players of any team out there, BUT getting SOME help in FA to upgrade the team sure as hell would help a little. Well, unless you think signing Croissant was a major move towards winning a ring.
