It did get me thinking about what other RBs we really might have forgotten about.

I loved bus as much as anyone but guess what? If it was not for Ben and that incredible tackle after the ' fumble" in Indianapolis we may have all hated him right now.

I thought it was Heath Miller who eventually made the tackle with Ben. It might have been the other TE, whose name escapes me right now...

Bettis was and is one of my all time favorites. I never get tired of watching Urlacher square up fill the hole only to get run over for the TD. Best against best was no contest.

I would still rather watch a punishing 7 yd run then some dink n dunk quick out for the same yardage.

The part people seem to forget about Bettis running over Urlacher is he was still shaking off another defender when Urlacher hit him. It wasn't even one-on-one and Bettis still ran the guy over.

I didn't mean to imply we all truly completely forgot about Bus, but rather, many forgot just how great he was for so long. Bus was truly unique: There have only been two "big backs" (250 lbs and over) to rush for 1,000 yards in more than one season. One was Bus, with NINE, the other was Natrone Means, with two. Let that soak in. For a big back to have nine 1,000+ yard rushing seasons is unheard of. And he was rarely too hurt to play. They broke the mold after the Bus. For his size, he was so nifty on his feet something most fans do not realize.

I wouldnt have, I would have felt terrible for the guy.

Hes one of the most genuine nicest people around. To have his career end like that, would have been awful for him.

Bettis is the reason I became a Steelers fan. Before the Bus came to pitt I was just a fan of players and he was my favorite. I got to meet him during his brief stint here in St Louis and still have both of his rarest rookie cards and his jersey that he signed for me that day. I think I was about twelve when I met him, I was soo awestruck.

I would like to think I would not hate him if we went on to lose that game, just liked him less. He gave us a lot. We could play smash-mouth with him.

I think you may have forgot the best big back in the last 50 years Earl Campbell. Bussy would be #2 though.

That depends on your definition of "big back." Earl was 232. Not small, but the metric I - and others - used for "big back" was 250 and larger. There was no doubt that EC was a insanely talented RB.
