    Ian Rapoport Retweeted Mike Mitchell

The #Steelers are expected to release Mike Mitchell next week, source said. With a $5M salary, they are up against it with the cap. They are open to bringing him back at a lower rate, though.https://twitter.com/iammikemitchell/status/972187068838436864…

This for me is the best offseason news of date.

The difference between hard hitters like Mitchell and Ryan Clark, is when Clark hit someone, they usually went down (and stayed down for the count). :dancing: With Mitchell it was either the guy was out of bounds, already on the ground or was not carrying the football at the time.

Or he drew a flag, or he knocked his own team mate off the tackle, ect. He was a liability from day 1. That style doesn't fly anymore, and his was questionable to begin with.

I just don't understand unless, they plan to get someone else in free agency?

We will not win the SB with Wilcox as our starter... who BTW was third string last year...

You are definitely asking the right questions. We should be watching this situation with nervous anticipation .

I can guarantee Wilcox will not be the starter.

Whether it' a FA plug, a top draft choice or Sean Davis flipping to FS and us drafting a SS.

There could be an option of moving Will Gay to FS but I doubt it.

I think they plan on re-signing him for reasonable money. I don't think he'll get a lot of other offers, but who knows...

I think we'll struggle with Mitchell or Wilcox.

The fact that they are looking to resign him at a more favourable rate would suggest to me they intend to draft S high, and have a starter-capable back up to support the rookie. That could be Mitchell or Wilcox, but probably not both.

While Wilcox is not great, his presence puts the Steelers in a stronger position with re-signing Mitchell of that's the role they have in mind for him.

You forgot all the plays where he finally made a tackle after the ball carrier got 10-15 yards AND a first down, at which time MM would celebrate the tackle. I can't stand this guy; he was a poor FA pick up. No one in their right mind would compare him favorably to Clark. As mentioned, RC truly cleaned players' clocks (back when that was legal) and played with good instincts and intelligence. MM had little of either. A decent rookie will be an upgrade quickly, hopefully allowing Davis to fit the bill better.

So they may resign him at a lower price? Still hope that a couple guys will be gone for the year.

What's sad about this ... is that, the steelers were forced to cut him because of the salary cap. Not, because of his play. And, they are considering bringing him back at a lesser contract. .wow

I just don't get what you don't get, it is no secret Mitchell sucks I think that is the one thing that most agree on here. This was expected it was no surprise, now can you wait more than 30 min for the Steelers to replace him and I hope to god they don't bring him back at a lower rate like they are saying.

I didn't say I thought bringing him back was a good idea (based on your dislike of my post), but it seems like something they'd do. Like I stated earlier, I was against his signing from day 1.

There are a few reports out there of them moving Sutton to safety which I think could be a perfect fit for him. Super smart player with ball skills and isn’t afraid to tackle.

They cut him because he sucks. That they would take him back on the cheap is just a consideration of depth on the 53.
