Well you have to replace them and I said that in my post, do you really think getting rid of 3 S(Mitchell, Golden and Wilcox) is a bad idea since this was our weakest position I say no. We can get a S a hell of a lot better than Mitchel for 4/25 tops. Signing bonus(5m) maybe set up cap hit like this: 3m, 5m, 6m & 6m. That gives us a break the first 2 years while Ben is here in his prime. Then we can sign a low budget guy like Byrd at a mill he played for 900k last season and just right there is the 5 mill we saved on Mitchell. We can do the same for ILB, and lets not forget the 5-6 mil it will cost the draft class. It can be done we can get the money and it will improve this team. Other than Vance and Foster do you think any other players is of any value to this team cause I don't.:smiley1:

My point is that you have to replace them, they arent going to play for free. Im not a capologist and I dont play one on TV but it seems like you are being a bit optimistic with your figures. Whoever they sign, will cut into the numbers you are counting on. Im not talking about signing basement bargains, Im talking about bringing in a top flight safety.

First off I am not a capologist but......I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once, :hehehe::roflmao:

On a serious note maybe I am a bit optimistic but here is the way I look at it and it is simple math(at least in my head, lol) Mitchell(5m) Wilcox(3.1m) and Golden(1.4m) is a total of 9.5 mil. Now let's say we get Boston for my price and figure that is 4m, then a cheap FA back up 1m and a draft pick 750K for a total of 6 mil and a savings of 3.5 mil off what we already had...a savings, plus we got better....cause we couldn't get any worse. lol

Now where the problem lies is at ILB we don't have that 5 mil to cut but like I pointed out the other cuts will help. We have 6 mil of space now, with all my cuts I think it was like 20m bringing our total to 26m of space, add in the extentions of Ben and MP at 10m now we are at 36m of space. If we spend 14m on Bell and another 10 on starters at ILB and S, 6mil on draft, another 2.5m on Vance and and 3m on low FA signings we are good, still have some left over.

Is this optimistic maybe but it can happen. I have pointed out what guys are making at S and ILB and a 4/25 is not far off for a B level FA guy. Not to mention I am just some message board junkie:)shrug:) can you imagine what the real guys who know their **** can go???? lol

I think you are forgetting that when you cut someone there's a portion of their salary that still counts towards the cap.

No I included what our savings is next to all the names. If we cut Mitchel we save 5m the rest is "dead" money and but we get a savings of 5m.

Regardless of when a player is cut, the team still saves money. Most often this is simply because the team is no longer responsible for paying the player's salary for the current and remaining years of the contract. They also can save money, depending on the timing of the cut, by avoiding certain bonuses. If a player is cut before the start of the new league year, the team will avoid having to pay any roster or workout bonuses for the remaining years. Additionally, any option bonuses that have not yet begun will be voided, as well.

Got it. I didn't realize NY was posting the actual cap savings. Thought it was just their salaries.
