Noll was a four time SB winner. He took a lousy franchise and helped transform it into an iconic one.

Tomlin is 8-7, two SB trips...and the one for. He's one of the most successful coaches over the last decade.

Factoring in free agency today vs then, and other factors, who is the more successful Steelers coach?

I know it's the offseason, but Dang!
Tomlin is a good coach, but anyone who has to ask who's better between him and Noll hasn't been paying attention.
    At all.

Clearly some of the posters on this site are very young. This thought would not cross an old farts mind.

That's what I was thinking. Don't want to be too hard on the OP. Shoot, he may be a kid. But Chuck Noll took an organization that had been the laughingstock of the league for decades and transformed them into the greatest dynasty in NFL history. There is no comparison.

This thread has me wondering how Chaz would deal with the players of today. For some reason I think it would mirror Belichick's success without having to bend the rules the way Bill does.

As for Chuck Noll Vs. Mike Tomlin. MT's not even in the same league.

Dunno, it seems a different world now. It’s difficult to get a sense of how Noll approached some of the things HCs are under scrutiny for now. Remember that Noll was sued by one of his players, while they were still on the team. I’m not sure what that translates into today.

But yeah, this thread is probably going nowhere fast.

I guess since you are bored and really dont have a clue. Sorry but if this comparison even crossed your mind you dont. I will make it simple for you

NOLL. everyday of the week and twice on sunday.

Maybe, maybe. 2 or 3 coaches in history can even be compared. And nobody in the last 20 years can be. Period

Thinking the OP got a bit extreme with the comparison - maybe better to compare MT with say a John Harbaugh, Tony Dungy or a Jeff Fisher. Noll's comparison class would include the likes of Lombardy, Halas, Landry, Shula, and (gulp) Bellicheat.

Mojave, did you really spell Lombardi with a "y?" :smiley1: It does make him seem a more friendly coach. I doubt though Lombardy wins five championships in seven years.

Since this thread is a unanimous fail, alow me to hijack it.

Let's compare Cowher to Tomlin. Both have been to two Super Bowls. Both are 1-1. Both have a ton of playoff appearances. Both have epic playoff wins and epic fails. Both have outstanding regular season records. This would be a fair comparison.

So who's your guy. I'm going Cowher twice every day of the week and three times on Sunday.
