He's 6'2 210 i heard a scout mention him going to the Steelers in the first round, I would be okay with this pick.

I would be more than okay with this pick if Ronnie Harrison is not available.

Outside of Minkah Fitzpatrick, DeShon Elliot is the only other ball hawking Free Safety in the class who is also a solid run defender.

My biggest question for him remains as to how well will he perform at the combine. Hopefully gets his 40 time into the mid to upper 4.4s and possess both a Short Shuttle and Three Cone in the 4.1s and sub 6.8s respectively.

Outside of his athletic questions and some tackling mechanics that need fine tuned, not much else to complain about. :smiley1:

I think Elliott has a better chance of going in the first round than Harrison, a lot will depend on the combine and pro days.

A lot of those picks were gifts... he made some nice plays in there too tho. Looks like a good tackler and hard hitter. Both good things. Soft hands too

He's on the Safety list for sure. Very intriguing.

I think I will take the Bama guys ahead of him. I like their coach

a whole lot better. Maybe coach Saban has instilled some insight into them?

I'd like to see a guy with some better speed.

We don't know what Elliott can run yet, we will find out at the combine.

Or his pro day but many sights are pretty close to what these guys do run. There usually isn't a great increase coming from them. I'd rather a sub 4.5 than a 4.6 in a safety. I want that 4.6 time in a LBer.

He should run in the 4.5s no doubt. I am hoping though for the mid to high 4.4s.

Walter- "word from the Texas programs was that Eliot will have a disappointing 40 time, with the potential to be scarily slow."

I don'r think speed is his strength for sure.

If he runs in the 4.5s I can live with it. If it turns out to be high 4.6 or 4.7 then that' a different story.

Jordan Whitehead is the only other safety in the draft I can think of. He can play both spots but is more of a true Free Safety with some very good instincts.

Issue is he is sub six feet. I am wondering personally if he really is 5 feet, eleven inches.

That played SS... Not that I think height has anything to with any on of it. I still think Davis can be good in Troy's spot. We need a stout or in the very least a serviceable FS.

Troy also had transcendent athleticism and instincts to boot.

My point is that I do not believe Tomlin wants those sub six feet defensive backs anymore.

Tony brown can convert to safety.
    Carlton Davis can.
Henderson from Hawaii is 6' and sub 4.5.
Watts is sub 4.5 and barely under 6'.
We also have Brian Allen already here that is 6-3 and sub 4.5.
Summers from Duke is a flyer at 4.4.
There are several guys that run in the range that is much more acceptable and within an inch or so of 6'. We just have to do our work in finding them.

From what ive read on him most scouts dont have him higher than maybe a 2 or 3 pick one report had him a day 3 pick one mock had us picking him in the second round, maybe if he has a fantastic combine he might rise up to be a late one pick in this draft.....

If he runs a 4.5 or lower, I could see him going in round 1. Most of those mocks are a joke, many of them had us taking a CB in round one.

I don't think that's a joke at all. There are some really good ones that can play safety too.
