AR2 said in his year end presser that They are working on an extension for Ben in the near future. That he wants to play past his current deal. That cements that Ben was going to retire because of Haley. This pushes our QB draft needs down the road a bit and give Dobbs a chance to grow and show we don’t need one.

It was definitely Haley. People will call Ben a baby but Ive worked for a really bad boss (Im sure we all have) you go in and do your job but doesnt mean you have to like it or stay there. I got out of my situation and Ben got out of his.

Happy he is going to be around for a while longer. Im excited to see no huddle Ben!

Maybe Ben said to go sign some players, and is trying to get his cap hit down.

I don't think he plays many more years. 3 max.

An extension was obvious once he said he wanted to keep playing, they need to get the cap down. Probably get a 2 year extension. Keeps him here 4 more years.

He needs to play smart like he did last year, he didnt take too many needless hits.

Reports are saying that they are in contract negotiations and ben would like to play past 2019. I'm hopeful that Ben is willing to take a pay cut and we can use that money to keep Le'Veon around for a couple more years. Hate to say it but that's part of the reason that helps make the pats so good. Brady is willing to take less money in order to get better pieces around him and increase chances of winning.

Yeah hopefully he goes Brady’s route which I feel like he will because he wants to tie Bradshaw.

Piss on Bell. Let him walk. Frankly I'd be disgusted if they resign him unless he drastically lowers his demand to something more reasonable. Signing him for anything short of that would be a fatal mistake. He's a luxury, not a necessity.

Agree...now he's tweeting about signing with Jets for $100M, while he's still a Steeler!! Read about NE and Philly how they are two selfless teams...that's what it takes to win a SB

he didn’t tweet about it. A fan asked him if he would sign with the Jets for 60 he said no. Then TMZ asked if he would sign with the Jets for 100 Million to which he said no.

And this is how rumors get started. The guy was purely making tongue in check comments and it winds up here inaccurate and as gospel truth.

I don't think it's rumor, as this is what he said: "Go to the bank and get 100 (million)," Bell said. "I play running back, but they gotta respect me like I am. It is what it is."

I was wrong in saying it was a tweet, but regardless, talking about numbers with another team, while still a Steeler is inappropriate in my opinion. Even if it's tongue and cheek.

Not arguing, just asking, is he technically a Steeler now or a FA? When does his contract end? When does FA start?

Edit: I found the answer, 4 pm March 14.

Rumor or not he needs to be franchised not signed long term. Then if ANY suitor wants him, and their will be, we can refuse the monster payday he so desires and get two 1st round picks, and major cap savings.

I don't think any team out there will be giving up 2 first round picks for him, only to sign him to play at $15M/year. But stranger things have happened...

Then, when the above plays out, then they have a RB who won't show up until the first week, making $15M, which limits their ability to improve the D via free agency.

I say, thanks for your stats and good luck in NY!

There is a catch however, Rooney said the extension wont necessarily happen in 2018:

Steelers president Art Rooney just spoke to a handful of reports. He said Ben Roethlisberger wants to play beyond his contract, which has 2 years to run, and they will try to figure out a possible extension at some point (not exactly in 2018 though)

Tongue and cheek can be harmless if it's done the right way. An obviously sarcastic "hell yes, I'd play in Siberia for $100M' response is harmless. But when paired with what I bolded isn't. He's using this fun tongue and cheek moment to make a point and put the Steelers on notice.

He's arrogant and selfish and they shouldn't even waste their time franchising him again as they need defensive help IMMEDIATELY with the loss of Shazier. Overpaying even for just one (more) year can be a critical mistake as that tag money would be better spent in FA. He's already making 50% more than the next highest RB and that is MORE than fair, but this assshole wants double. $16M/yr is so absurdly ridiculous its not even funny.

I say let his ass walk and let him find out just how many teams (none) will give him $16M/yr. And then let him find out what quality of team will pay him something close to that and see how well he does on a ****ty club, with a ****ty line, and a ****ty quarterback.

F-off. Good bye and good riddance.
