I tell you this, if Bill benched him for disciplinary reasons he will have a hard time not losing that locker room. I like Rowe but Butler is definitely better than him. Heck, he's one of the best DBs they have.

No thanks to Butler. Steelers have bigger problems on the D-line and Linebacking corps. 2 overpaid stiffs at DE who disappear in big games and several ILBs who should be selling insurance instead of being on a NFL roster... and Jarvis Jones 2.0 at LOLB.

    ... Okay.... :hmm:

    So let me get this straight;

-A linebacker who has, without question underachieved but possess a far superior stat line than Jarvis Jones.

    - A defensive end that was named a First Team All Pro.

    - A Defensive end who is a top 5 3-4 run stuffing defensive end.

    And

    - An Inside Linebacker who has shown he is capable of starting in this league.

Now, that being said, yes, we still need help with this defense. Yes, we really ought to say Sayonara to Mike Mitchell. Most importantly, yes, certain players on the defense have important seasons coming up that will justify their future here.

However, do not sell this defense short. We were a top five defense last season and had improved from 2016. There is much needed improvement but this is not a rebuild on defense anymore but rather a reloading process.

Once we acquire those pieces, this defense will soar to new heights again.

The Pats have a lot to figure out. Solder is a free agent, both coordinators are leaving and the Tom and Bill fight will have to play out. Apparently, Tom walked right by a hand shake from Matt Patricia in the tunnel. Gronk is talking retirement but I doubt that. But the most important thing is for us to get our house in order and start playing well from the start of the season. We don’t need Butler, costs too much.

This is the most controversy this team has had inside and losing 2 coaches that have been around awhile. Coming off the SB loss I think this is finally the time......of course at some point someone is gonna be right

Don't think I said it was but did say it will be interesting to hear why.......Butler is good and should have been SB MVP vs the Seachickens!

If those DEs are as good as you say they are... then why did the Bears, Ravens, Jaguars and Browns RBs run all over them?

If the steelers did sign him ..then we could always blame the Butler for the losses.

traded Jimmy Gorapalo for almost nothing, sitting Macolum Butler without cause in the biggest game of the year. Shocked that Butler did not even play in nickel/dime defense. Is there a real power/ego struggle in NE?

People rip Tomln for lack of discipline, and no without justification. And Bell's la-di-da attitude about showing up for last day walk-thru vs Jax, and that Tomlin did nothing about it is Exhibit A for many that Tomlin can't control the team.

But suppose Tomlin did a Bellichek/Butler on him, and benched Bell for the Jags game and they lost. I suspect a lot of people here wouldn't be praising Tomlin for his discipline, but instead would be ripping him for being bull headed and inflexible for benching one of his best.

I’m guessing “something” happened Saturday night to get him benched on Defense.

We’ll find out the truth from
his agent shortly. Not playing in that game cost Butler a lot of money in free agency and I’m sure he’ll want to set the record straight so people don’t think down on him. Butler wasn’t happy all season because he saw Gilmore walking around with what his deemed as his contract. He still had a solid year with no issues. It’s not like he was sleeping in team meetings or anything.

Perhaps much of that has to do with the entire defense as a whole; hence my "reloading" comment in my statement earlier.

Two players cannot shoulder that defeat alone. That in itself, is shortsighted and undermines a slew of variables that justified those losses.

Hell no, he will be looking for a big payday. They need more help at safety than CB. The report is Butler missed curfew because he was at a concert, and he had weed on him.

    According to Rapoport:

"My understanding is the benching of #Patriots CB Malcolm Butler happened because of a perfect storm of issues: Sickness, a rough week of practice, and a minor rule violation believed to be related to curfew. A complicated matter."

It's strange to me that Butler was benched, but did make in into the game for one special teams play (an Eagles punt). What's the sense?

Maybe the Steelers can start a GoFundMe to try to raise money to sign him.

I need to start a GoFundMe page for the amount of treatment I will need after I succumb to severe intoxication poisoning should we do so.

I'm taking this as a NO! If so, I agree.

Listening to Boston Sports here and sounds like he's had issues in the past, not working hard, showing up late to mtgs, not in the greatest shape, which is why they didn't sign him to a new contract.

    I agree and disagree lol.

Even with Shaz our defense was imploding late season. Secondary is still garbage.

However not all is doom and gloom.

Heyward is great, he only disappears because nobody else steps up.
I truly believe toot was playing hurt and I feel he will be better next year, but not as good as he was pre injury.
grave is a hit or miss.

our linebackers are a mess. TJ watt is good and all but can't sniff his brothers jockstrap in terms of ability lol. our defensive system is weird though and requires a lot of coverage. He is decent and pass rushing and good in coverage.
Alvin the chipmunk Dupree is Jarvis Jones on steroids. Steroids being flintstones gummy vitamins.
ILB is a messs. Vince is funny but that's about it. Spence is a great 4th stringer.

Secondary is average. Burns is good in man, sucks in zone, overall just average. He regressed(WJIII anyone?)
Mitchell is great in talking trash.
Davis tries hard to compensate for above trash.
Hilton is rock solid. good in coverage and excellent in blitzing. Decent tackler
Haden is football smart. Body is banged up but smart off the ball and makes up for it with knowledge and non stupidity.

So basically I think Shaz is done.
    Drafts go to ILB, Safeties

So yeah AQL, we are close but if we miss again on our picks then we are done lol.

oh and stopping the run is a priority. Never again do I want to see a steeler defense getting gashed all day long in the trenches.
