Alex Smith was just traded to the Redskins. Steelers should sign Kirk Cousins before he goes to Jacksonville or Denver and helps them win a SB and makes Ben's last year miserable in 2018. Cut Ben or force him to retire.

If Ben had retired this offseason, I would DEFINITELY want Kirk, but since Ben is coming back I would say no.

So cut Ben who just had a better season then Cousins and take on his dead money PLUS sign Cousins to a huge contract?

Isn't Cousins basically at the same level as Alex Smith?

Whether Bens play falls off a cliff or not remains to be seen but that doesnt change the fact that the OPs scenario isnt remotely viable.

I don't agree with getting cousins either. Cousins isn't good enough to lead this team. But my point in that is you all on one hand say we are planning for the future when Ben isn't in the cards of the future as future in nfl is more than 3 seasons(which I give him 2 at most)... then say we planning for the future but get rid of a once in a lifetime rb who would take the pressure off whatever qb that would step in after Ben and also funny how with ab and without bell we got embarrassd by ne but without ab and with bell we should have beat NE and got robbed. Not saying ab isn't great he's a top 5 player in this game but you're not beating a belichick team on offense with strictly it just being bombs away.

Some serious generalization going on in there and nothing to do with my response to the OP.

They arent cutting Ben. If anything, they will extend him to reduce the cap. The only way to be rid of Ben now is if he retires.

Ben is their best chance of winning right now. They can draft a QB in 2019 if they dont like what they have behind him for the future. Ben just played a full season and at a high level, no reason to believe he cant do it again this coming season.

Exactly if you stick with ben than the plan is to MAXIMIZE this roster for a sb. Settling just for the draft on defense and not making big moves is not doing that. Not saying we can't get some good developmental players in the later rounds who may turn great but by that time Ben's clock may be up. Yall thought that same about davis, Dupree, and burns and their ceilings are decent starters at best. No flashes of greatness just of good starting stability. Can't keep trying to crapshoot in the draft to win a sb plus tomlin has proven his eye for defensive talent isn't promising.

There is no option but to stick with Ben. Not sure what you are getting at but Ben is the best option and because of the situation, the only option.

Still too early to give a final grade on Burns and Davis and even Dupree given his lost time due to injuries. This season will be crucial for those 3 and the team.

They'll never be big players in FA, they've done very well building through the draft and filling in holes with low level FA's. Last year I thought there was a chance theyd make a FA splash and they did try too but even with the modest cap room they had, they still couldnt compete with teams willing to throw gobs of money at FA's. I dont expect anything big this year since they have no room.

Belichick was about to get rid of Brady but due to Brady's relationship with Kraft he was forced to trade Jimmy G. And it's too early? Wasn't jalen Ramsey drafted last year just like artie toast burns?

Also how have they done well in the draft on defense and in free agency. Outside of watt, shazier, and somewhat hayward( although I think he's overrated) how have they done great in the draft? The jags defense is what you call great drafting and free agency. The Broncos defense, seaatles defense, Panthers def, NO Def, Philly def, minny( just thought that playing an at home and case keenum coming back to earth got to them plus that miracle).. Those are what you call great jobs. We are essentially the packers of the afc. Great offense being wasted by inept coaching and defense.

No he wasnt and has nothing to do with the Steelers and Ben. Steelers DO NOT HAVE CAP ROOM TO DUMP BEN.

What the heck does Ramsey have to do with Burns?

Steelers have been picking near the bottom of the round on a regular basis while Jags have gotten fat on top 10 picks. And doing well as in they are the most successful team since 2000 after NE and the most successful since 1990.

    Most be doing something right.

Because Ramsey is a 2nd year player just like burns and what is he doing? You put that jags defense with our offense and we EMBARASS ne. And belichick was. Belichick getsrid of guys before they fall off a cliff. He doesn't wait until they do to say oh hey let' get rid of him now. And I never said get rid of Ben. I'm asking then what is the direction of the team. To keep playing for 2nd to ne? I' saying since keeping Ben isvthe only option do WHATEVER to maximize chances at a sb. And they aren't doing that.

Calais, bouye, Gipson, church, etc.. were all FA signees. And we have been successful in the 2000z. That was in large part with an elite defense that had nothing to do with tomlin as well as a hall of fame qb that again has nothing to do with Mike T.

And if pitt did get rid of Ben does your dumb a think they would just cut him? No. They could easily trade him. Not saying to do it I'm just saying if they went that route.
