They don't tackle anymore. They play two handed tab. They should do away with this game. Its a disgrace and an insult to any fan of the game of football.

I thought this also. It was like well the pressure is off of us now, we can enjoy our money, don't have to get banged up anymore and be celebrities. We were 13-3. Life is good.

Yup ben wasn’t even mad after the game and I bet it’s because he had good stats. If he stunk he would’ve been all quiet lol. He knows it ain’t happening with this D

Close, but Dallas had 13 players in the pro bowl 2008 after going 13-3 in the 07 season, which I thought was a joke at the time with that record number in the PB, and they lost in the division round against the giants..........

It was a bad performance. It happens, that's life. People shouldn't be burned at the stake over a bad performance. Like all defenses in the league the Steelers showed they can play well or poorly. That's just the nature of the league. The Vikes defense had a bad performance vs the Eagles. The same Jags defense had a bad performance vs the 49ers. I can go on and on but I hope you get the point that sometimes teams/units play well and sometimes they don't. That's the way the league seems to be built.

The Steelers defense showed some growth and did some things well this year. They also had some issues giving up big plays and had stopping the run at times. Over all it wasn't as bad as the picture you want to paint.

Exactly! Way to laidback after the Jags lose. It’s like I got my stats so I’m good. I didn’t like that at all. I think I took it harder than some of the players did.

The FACT of the matter is that it was a bad performance of HISTORIC PROPORTIONS! I'm not saying anyone should be "burned at the stake". I'm not even saying that the DC should be fired. I'm on record as saying that a couple of position coaches should be and I stand by that. You say it wasn't as bad as the picture I want to paint. Geez, what is it that's failing to get through to you that in the long and varied history of postseason Steelers football they have NEVER had a worse defensive performance? Go back and find me a worse defensive performance and I'll admit that it wasn't as bad as the picture I want to paint. The fact is, it wasn't nearly as good as you want to think it is and if you'd take your rose colored glasses off for just a minute maybe you'd get that.

Maybe you should understand that it wasnt just about one game or a handful of games. You are looking at the smaller picture. Im looking at the defenses entire body of work. I suspect thats why no one was fired.

That game WAS bad on historic proportions but that doesnt mean the whole season was. Jags had their number, two highest scores against them were both by Jax.

I dont think **** canning a couple position coaches are suddenly going to make them great, its still mostly a talent issue.

I understand that when you look at the entire body of work from a statistical perspective, it doesn't appear to be that bad. But can you honestly tell me that when you watched this defense this year you had confidence that they could get off the field on third down? That they had the ability to create turnovers? That they weren't susceptible to the big play, run and pass? Our younger players, the guys we've invested high draft picks in, are regressing. Somebody needs to be held accountable for that but it's status quo next season according to Coach T.

    See above...

But let me add, if you think it's a talent issue then let's can our entire scouting department! We've got 6 first round and 3 second round draft picks starting on our defense. At some point you have to start looking at scouting and coaching.

Why you always want to fire everybody you bully! :lolol:

I think they draft fine for the most part with the exception of the secondary which is the area I was alluding too. No secret they have trouble evaluating DB's. Davis and Burns still have a chance, books not written on them yet.

As for the question about being comfortable with the defense last season, early on I was, lets not forget that the D carried the offense while Ben and the O were trying to find its rhythm.

As far as this past year went when evaluating the D how many top QB's did we face, not many and our ability to stop the run against power running teams was terrible.

Pressure helps coverage and coverage creates pressure in some games we had neither.

Sure we racked up big sack numbers but 3 a game gives you 48 and a lot of our sacks were buy design and not by one on one domination.

You can get 3 or 4 sacks and 45 plays with almost nothing.

You have to admit we struggled against a lot of second string QB's.

I don't watch all star games at all they are not even close to the real game. Almost touch football , non contact hockey and basketball is like a practice without having another team on the court.

Baseball is sort of close to the real thing without the brush back pitch, but still a waste of time as its like kids baseball everyone has to get a chance to play. Pete Rose played it like a real game and was labeled as an A-hole the rest of his career. ( most might have already thought that anyways)

I’m not sure I’m reading you right here, but only 4 teams had more than 43 sacks this year. Only a third of the league had 40 or more. So I’m not sure you just get them with nothing.

But I may have misread you, so apologies if so.

We are talking about the same Eagles that were the #1 offense when Wentz was there? Defense use to win championships now you only need a decent defense and a good offense to win championships. The NFL has changed the rules so it is an offensive league.

I have said before we played the Pat's this was the weakest team the Pat's had and look where they are now . Coaching goes a long way and in NE all the coaches are on the same page and that is Belicheat's page and if your not your gone!!!!!!

I am still hoping for the SB to get cancelled as there is no way I want the Cheats to win and Eagles fans are so annoying.....my youngest son and his best friend are a couple of them. :puking:

I am not sure about talent being the biggest problem. First no Shazier hurt this team and Mitchell lack of reading and reacting playing deep was another big problem. Where I feel a lot of our problem lies is the scheme. We come out play 10 yards off vs a QB who isn't known to be very good throwing the ball was a pretty bad game plan. Game planning is one of the areas I feel that is holding this team back, I feel we have talent on the defensive side of the ball but it isn't being used to it's strengths. jmo

Blast no no no you have no idea how bad it is in my house. My 2 older boys are Steeler fans so the youngest(a senior in HS) always talks smack to us and always we have the last laugh. Well this year looks to be different, as a matter of fact every day when he comes home from basketball practice his first words are........guess who's team is still playing and guess who's isn't!!!! Also if you listen to him Wentz is already in the HOF and better than Ben.....

It is not an easy decision but I will be a Eagle fan for a few hours....however I will be rooting for my SB numbers a whole lot more.......:roflmao:

If they would just leave Burns in man to man he will be a good corner. They keep trying to force him to play zone and that just isn’t his game. When he plays man he is always in decent position. When he is in zone he gets lost in space. With him and Haden on the outside to me there is no excuse not to go man almost all the time. You have to mix it up some but I would try as hard as I could not to get him in open space in zone coverage. I don’t know if it’s a discipline thing or he wants to make a play or what but you can clearly see he just gets lost and doesn’t really know what to do. That’s on Butler to me.

Isn't that the story of this defense when it plays zone we get shredded but when we play man it is so much better. jmo
