I don't think he's a bad coach either but I really hope he realizes he has a lot of room for improvement. I hope he doesn't poo-poo everything in his mind like he does in his press conferences. There are glaring mistakes in his coaching but his bravado seems to get in the way of his rationale in big spots and that's when you need to be at your best. For somebody who portrays himself as such a great communicator ,his message is getting lost both on and off the field. Decastro had some pretty critical things to say and it doesn't seem like a well put together locker room. The players who pledge their loyalty to him aren't doing a good enough job at being leaders and helping build a winning culture. Buddy-buddy clearly isn't working for this group of guys ,our discipline on and off is terrible and that's supposed to come and be enforced by the HC. He is obviously failing in those regards. Love to see him right the ship but things have to change dramatically.....starting now. The BS can no longer be tolerated.......

Tomlin is a good position coach. A good head coach he has not. You can keep trying to fit a square peg in a round hole all you want.

Dan Bylsma was one of the most successful regular season coaches for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's unemployed now. Ask a Penguin fan now if they care about his regular season record and whether he should have been fired.

Because it's also a sport so it's valid. In this case it's very valid. Bylsma was fired because he couldn't make in game decisions and couldn't gameplan. Sound familiar?

I’m a diehard pens fan also and this obsession with coaches with great regular season records is absurd. Bysma had Sid and Geno. They will win a few games with me behind the bench! Tomlin has had a great QB WR and RB for years with a great oline. A circus monkey could win a certain amount of games with that cast. He is supposed to be a defensive minded coach yet his D is a laughing stock for several years despite focusing Year after year with defensive draft picks. I mean how anyone can defend him besides saying “who out there is better” is laughable. He has had his chance it’s time for a change

Tomlin has been here for 10 years and he still has to learn on how to control a team and be a better coach? Doesn't that speak for itself lol

I don't know if we would get somebody better. The Pens didn't with their first coach. But then they tried again and struck gold (not looking so good this season but I'm more than willing to give them a pass). Sometimes you just have to try.

I think as Steelers fans we need to channel our inner Machiavelli. Do not ask which are the lesser evils on the team, but which are the most effective evils. Haley is gone because he cannot exist in the same universe as Ben. Mitchell is obvious. Bell for his antics, plays his tail off so I say keep him. Lastly, as it pains me to say it, keep Tomlin. I think this PFT report is the perfect way to publicly put him on notice.

You guys are lost, the bashing Tomlin threads are down the hall!

Tomlin plays a part in having talent around him so can't hold that against him. Him and Colbert have rebuilt this team while keeping the Steelers competitive.

As far as anybody being able to coach a talented team, ask Barry Switzer about that. More loaded team than Tomlin has ever had.

I actually believe that Barry Switzer and Mike Tomlin have something in common. Switzer won the Super Bowl against the Steelers with Jimmy Johnson's players who provided very strong veteran leadership to the team enabling them to win the big game almost in spite of the head coach and not because of him. I'm beginning to believe the same about Tomlin. He won the Super Bowl with Bill Cowher's players who were an awesome bunch of individuals on and off the football field and who provided tremendous locker room leadership. They didn't allow the young guys to get out of line. You think Hines, Troy, Casey, Aaron, Jerome and others would have put up with the crap we've seen this year from Bell, Bryant, Mitchell and some of these other young and cocky punks on the team. Tomlin seems to me to almost want to be one of the boys sometimes and I just don't think his style of leadership works with this mix of players.

Yeah, about this. John Stallworth is apparently one of the "numbskulls" lobbying Rooney about a potential coaching change so there's that.

    No it does not.

Apples to oranges comparison. The goal remains the same but the structure of the sport is far different for each.

Except Switzer took them to a 6-10 record.

I was making a joke off of someone elses use of the word. I havent seen that, is there a link?

Even if true, what does that mean? Stallworth is infallible? He has an opinion like anyone else. I can name a ton of people of note that disagree with him.

    https://www.upi.com/Sports_News/NFL...wners-push-for-coaching-change/8651516135772/

The report listed Rob Citrone, Paul Evanson, Larry Paul, Stephen Paul, Bruce Rauner, Paul Sams, John Stallworth, Benjamin Statler, Scott Swank, David Tepper, Thomas Tull, Peter Varischetti and Mike Wilkins as the minority owners involved.

I know Tomlin is not going to be fired, but there's alot more noise immediately after a season ending playoff loss than there has been in prior years. When you have minority owners, especially one who has strong Steeler ties and significant football credibility, questioning whether or not there should be a change, Tomlin's seat should at least be feeling a little warm at this point. If I'm Rooney, I leverage this for all it's worth, essentially put Tomlin on a performance improvement plan and let him know it's Super Bowl or bust next year.

im skeptical of that report. See if JS actually speaks out on this.

Im amused though that its the last 47 seconds that they have a problem with. Not the 59 minutes and 13 seconds before that.

The sport has nothing to do with it. The concept is the same. Coach not getting through to players.
