I think you gotta have 1 lb that can run with TEs and slot receivers. With Shazier out, I'm not sure we have that guy.

We've got our inside thumper with #98.

Oh I know Elvis. I was just pondering the thought. Not entertaining the idea.

To me, he is essentialy Robert Nkemdiche 2.0; better and worse in almost every way. As you stated though, someone will take a chance at him.

Ideally, yes, I would agree. But 240+ lbs who can run are rare.

I really have come to really like the S/LB types.

Keep an eye on Deone Buchanon in a couple of hours.

    EDIT: meant Deone Jones.

    Buchanon not bad either though.

Just like with Shazier, they may end up 240 or so, but they may be 225 in college. I wouldn't use weight as a qualifying factor.

But turtle you saw the beating Shazier took his first couple years , he couldn't stay healthy.

    Best players are available players.

Smith will be a top 15 pick IMO, the Steelers have no shot at him.

Are there any ILB available in FA? I am not sure other than Smith who
I believe is a high first round talent, that will be worth spending a high pick on. FS has to be
a high priority and a FA ILB. I would like to see the Steelers be more aggressive this draft.
Not sure if it is in their MO?

While Roquan Smith is the best ILB in this class, this is a much better ILB class than usual.

I have not done any research, but heard it is weak. This is why I am opting FA for ILB.

I have similar views to some others. I'm looking for a big SS that has room to grow a little, likes to hit, and has some coverage skills.

Sean Davis? Might of just had a bad year ....checks all your boxes but has to improve his tackling instead of hitting....

Sean Davis would have to put on too much weight to play ILB. At least 30 lbs. Then of course you have to replace him at SS.

    I'm thinking like a Melifonwu type. 6'2-6'4, 215-220 guy.

back to ohio state for a couple of guys like chris worley, jerome baker or fred warner from byu, skai moore from S.Carolina ( he's a great pass defending LB), oren burks from vandy, tegray scales from indiana doesn't have the speed of these others but is good against the pass as well. all are good LB'ers against the pass.

asantay brown, western mich., kyle queiro, northwestern, kyzir white WVU, terrell edmunds Va.Tech, ronnie harrison bama, derwin james fla.st.. just a few of the bigger SS types that could probably move inside.

there are options out there in the draft.

You will see more of the same of what you saw in the Jsville game. Too light ofLB's trying to shed
300 pound lineman to tackle a 230 pd hard running rb. It doesn't work.

it's a double edge sword though. to big of LB'ers can't cover the pass either. if they can play against 300 lb linemen in college they should be able to do it in the pro's too. there's a fine line. i want smart, good tackling, good coverage LB'ers that can run. is that too much to ask for? :smiley1::cool:

If a 300 lbs OL gets a clean shot on you, he's most likely taking you out of the play anyway. I think a 225-230 lbs guy has a chance to slip the block. And hopefully he has a chance to cover Gronk.

Bottom line, if you can't cover Gronk, you can't win a super bowl. If you think of that way, which is fact, it makes decisions much easier.

It reminds me of the old adage, In order to win a race, first you have to finish the race. In order to win a Super Bowl, first you have to cover Gronk.

There is a fine line Mac, but most of the 300 pounders in college aren't going to make professional
football players. There are about 10 college programs that produce potentially multiple NFL caliber football players.

Most of the 300 pd college linemen are going to get on with their life's work.
