Mark Andrews from Oklahoma will be the the hot name at TE this year.

Looks like a legit 1st round talent.

Really shifty at 6'5 255. Pretty good blocker too.

I just think TE is way too big of a luxury to take in Round 1.

I can live with Vance and the Outlaw.

    fred warner BYU

    oren burks Vandy

i think either could play inside. those are my top 2. they are OLB but move around. both are good against the run and pass.

kyzir white WVU is another. he's a SS but also moves around the defense. may have to put a few lbs. on him but he has the size and is flexible in what you could do with him.

The issue is interest. Malik had that speed due towards admiration of the game. Now, he just seems disinterested at times.

Realistically, someone like Jerome Baker or Tremaine Edwards would also be good fits. Really want to include Josh Allen here but his inability to trust himself in his assignments is preventing me from doing so.

Yup. I agree. Really liked him last night. He looks a lot faster than I've heard projectons. Would like to see more playmaking ability from him, but he looks to have the athleticism and instincts.

If your talking about raquan smith he is a ILB that could be in our draft range he has 4.5 speed and is the heart of that georgia defense he is the closest player to shazier in the draft, only knock on him is his size 6-1 225 but he plays much bigger and has the 3-4 defense experience.....

just a few guys to look at for possible ILB spot other than smith from georgia. add him to the list as well. they can play the pass pretty well. that is something we will need to help out the D in this draft.

Cameron Smith, LB, USC........Anyone talking about him? Just looked at a mock and he was slated for us in the 2nd round so I pulled out his highlight film and was pretty impressed. I am not saying we get him in the 2nd that was where this mock had him, nobody can predict where anyone is going right now it is way to early. Here is his stats seems like a nice prospect for us:

Games Played: 21, Tackles: 161, Tackles For Loss: 8.0, Sacks: 2.0, Interceptions: 3, Pass Breakups: 7

Take a look at the pros on this list compared to the cons:

If he can lose 10lbs then you have something really good to work with.

    I like him too.

Roquan Smith in our draft range?

Right now he is a top 20 pick. Should he perform anything like Shazier in the combine then all bets are off. Immediate top 15.

Yet another reason to go after a free agent qb to replace roethlisberger. We need a lot of help on defense. Assuming Shazier is done we need ilb, olb, and safety at a minimum. It would help immensely if they all were immediate impact players as well.

I would rather have him as a 4-3 end but that is not going to happen unless both Keith and Mike Tomlin elect to go full 4-3 with hybrid variations.

That being said, I agree about drafting an outside linebacker but not in 2018. 2019 more than likely.

If Arden Key falls that far though... :hmm:

We need one. After 4 seasons of Dupree at olb it's pretty clear he isn't going to be a 10 sack a year guy. Find a stud olb to pair with Watt and Dupree can be depth off the bench.

    Hmmm..

10 sack production among our Outside Linebackers is a thing of the past now. Our defensive ends are essentially our pass rushers now.

    Ray Fittipaldo explains this better.

I grew with the article that our olb drop into coverage, but that's nothing new by any stretch of the imagination. Worilds, woodley, harrison etc all used to drop into coverage. However, Dupree hasn't shown that he can be a dominant pass rusher when called upon. There's no denying that.

Its more than just being able to simply drop in coverage or rush the passer. A versatile player on a position that is storied and celebrated the way the Steelers have showcased throughout the decades is what is now essential.

To beat teams like New England, linebackers have to be sufficient in all phases; defending the pass, the run and rushing the passer being the basics of them.

If anything, this team is attempting something that few if no other 3-4 team is utilizing; linebackers who can be deployed in a multi arrary of roles.

alot depends on they're plans for keion adams next year. we really didn't have room for him this year but they thought enough of him to draft him. he will fill the void of JH. huguenin played very well last preseason and i thought he might make the team but we went with moats and harrison. next year will probably be different in that aspect. money will dictate alot. they kept these two around for a reason. (adams 6-2 245 and huguenin 6-4 268). add chickillo and we are not in that bad of shape on the outsides. i think fort still has some worth on the inside too as does dirty red. he's just not healthy right now. i don't think we draft an OLB just yet, at least early.

I would love to be able to move Dupree inside but I just don't think he is physical enough for the move inside. Adams may have the potential and seems to be more of a natural pass rusher from what I've seen. We might not be as deep at OLB as you think. Moats gotta go, a decision needs to be made on Dupree after next season I believe. I like Chick but mostly for depth....2nd or 3rd round I can see as a possibility ,depending how we address ILB and Safety. I was looking forward to seeing more of Anfernee Jennings from Bama tonight but he got hurt against Clemson. He's a redshirt Sophomore so he may make himself draft eligible especially if Bama wins tonight. He may look at his injury as a reason to go pro.
To be honest I have no idea where he would be slotted but from what I've seen in a few games to me he looks like a bit more athletic Woodley.....drool.

yep moats has to go and now harrison is gone. tj, dupree, chick, adams, huguenin. huguenin looked pretty good in preseason last year. if he gained anything from the PS he could be a decent addition. adams being on IR didn't get those reps that huguenin got. he'll have a shot this year in camp though. a couple of the guys i highlighted in the above thread could pull that double duty as far as inside or out if needed. we shall see.

Arden Key has bust written all over him in my eyes.

Athlete but not a football player.

I'm sure he will impress at the combine and will ultimately be a top 15 pick.

A potential ILB option I was keeping an eye on was granted another year of eligibility and will stay at ASU.

Koron Crump, 6'2 225 has decided to return.

Keep him in mind next year.

I am really hesitant with 225 ILB, I know Shazier started at 225 but when he went up to 240

he was much more effective. Got to be able to shed and then thump sorta like Ray Ray.
