I bet you think it was okay for Cowher to shove photographs in a referee’s shirt

Dumb argument, Baltimore won a SB with Dilfer, Tampa won a SB with Brad Johnson. Even Peyton Manning wasn't a good QB when Denver won the SB.

Tomlin won Super Bowl XL with a quarterback who had a 22.6 rating

The point of my thread was the body of Tomlin's work this year. Granted he has 9 pro bowl players, and yes I am adding Cam Heyward to the list, but he has been able to keep the team together, in spite of all the distractions. I was confident last year about Pittsburgh going into New England because of the talent on this team. The talent is even better this year. Tomlin was not afraid to talk about New England three weeks before the game and they had a good game plan against them. I would rather see them put the ball in Ben's hands to move chains when the game is on the line, instead of playing the clock when Brady is on the other sideline. The Steelers are capable of slaying the dragon.

Was going to say something similar... he's a good coach, for the most part. He has his weaknesses (timeout and time management, glaringly obvious), and he does seem to have the respect of his players (albeit on a questionable level coach-wise). I will say he also benefits from being with an extremely stable organization - you can't discount the importance of that fact.

Cowher had his sideline moment as well.

You almost named every mediocre QB to ever win a sb. lol You forgot Jim McMahon and Doug Williams. That pretty much covers it. Not sure any of these guys were as bad as our QB's all those years. The only decent QB before Ben was Neil O. He made it to the big dance ...probably could have won one if he would have stayed in Pittsburgh.

Winning a SB with bad Qb's that turn the ball over is pretty much a fluke.

I think this is a huge year for Tomlins legacy. This is a super bowl capable team that even signed a joe Haden to get over the hump. We are better than NE this year now it’s his time to prove it.

Handed the keys to a Ferrari. He should have been successful, I am watching very closely this post season.

The talent is there. No execuses this time!

I was actually handed the keys to a Ferrari once -- a 328 GTB, back in the mid- to late-80s. (Sadly, I had neither a Hawaiian shirt nor a Magnum PI mustache.) Hard to believe, but today's run-of-the-mill Honda Odyssey minivan comes with more horsepower than that Ferrari had.

Anyway, getting a Ferrari means you're going to be competitive right off the line, but it's no guarantee of victory. Even if you drive well, things still have to go your way.

2008 and 2010 were Tomlin's best years of coaching. Coincidentally those were his two Super Bowl years. The main and important gripe I have had with Tomlin is his lack of having his team prepped game in and game out, especially against the lessor teams. As successful as Tomlin has been, he has lost some BAD games to garbage teams that cost the Steelers byes and playoff experiences.

This year, he has had to deal with outside distractions that have been pretty formidable. Haley today, Harrison last week, Bryant, Big Ben's drama, stress of Bell not smoking weed(My theory, haha), Shazier's injury. If the Steelers win it all, he will prove that he is a great coach for sure. Some think he already is. I always say, winning multiple titles is an important factor to be in the great category.

It would be nice to get over the New England hump, win a Super Bowl and end the year with joy. The off season after a Super Bowl win is some of the funniest times. Watching all the prep for free agency and combine and then the draft, it makes it so enjoyable to hear at the draft, and now, your Super Bowl Champs are on the clock.

Quite. He inherited an 8-8 team with a number of aging players and egos to boot. In Cowher’s last year the Steelers were pretty unmotivated and undisciplined. It was a Ferrari, but one that had been in the garage for a bit and needed tuning.

Obviously better than inheriting the Browns, which would be like a giant hotdog van.
