So now I hear JH was snoring during meetings and was trying to do whatever it took to get cut. I have the big picture now. The team wanted to keep him for depth and told him he would get to play, but did not deliver. In retaliation, JH did stuff like snoring at meetings because they would not cut him.

Finally the time came and he was released. It seems to me there was no place for him anymore. You can blame both sides, but IMO JH should have just finished the year a good teammate, then move on next year.

TheRe had to be an option for the FO to just lock him up in the basement and throw away the key til next season. ..you know like IR or PULP list or whatever .

I agree they should have never let him go. The fact that everyone is talking about it just makes NE think they have stuck it to us (insert school girl giggle). They should have just kept him around and inactive. Heck just give him an excused absence for the rest of the season then cut him loose. I hope he doesn't fair very well with NE especially if we have a rematch but JH will be JH and now he has a chip on his shoulder and that cant be good for any offense provided he still has "IT".

And I'm kind of hoping you get stuck on an elevator with him and get to tell him to his face how you really feel about life. I'm sure your tough words would prevail.

Well, I too wanted him to see more playing time throughout the season.

I realize I don’t know all of the dynamics that went into those decisions.

What I do know is I felt good on the last play of the Ravens’ game when I saw him on the field.

We don’t know the impacts of him going to the Pats just yet. We’ll see if he plays this week. A week in which I expect a lot of the Pats bench to get some work.

Seattle wasn't a Super Bowl contender and heated rival when Franco went there so stop acting like this is the same situation. Regardless if he contributes or not, will you be happy to see him raise a Lombardi as a member of this hated rival?

Let's put it in perspective, since everyone seems to be tossing around the "it was a business decision" sound byte. If there were a guy around the office that wasn't getting favorable treatment, decided to throw paper airplanes around the cubicles while everyone else was hard at work, and farted in staff meetings every time the boss talked marketing strategy - what would happen? He'd get his *ss fired, just like JH did. He got what he had coming. Competitor, com-shmetitor - act like a little baby and people are going to treat you like one.

I admit JH is a fringe HOF candidate. 2 rings although not really a factor in the first. 5 pro bowls. 2 all-pro. 1 DPOY. All time leader in Steelers history for sacks.

The above makes JH a fringe HOF candidate.

What puts him into the HOF will be his INT return in SB 43. Top 3 play in SB history.

His single great play won’t have any bearing and neither will his status as Steelers sack leader. 5 great years doesn’t get you in the hof. It Doesn’t even make you a fringe candidate.

I should probably amend my original post to 3 great years. Those are the only 3 he broke 10 sacks. The rest are very average. Look at the other hof members that had 20 sack seasons and double digit sacks for most of their careers as opposed to just three years. Harrison was a Steelers fan favorite, but that doesn’t get you in the hof.

    A) I'm sure the tone of your argument would have been much different just a week ago. Don' let emotion cloud your judgement.

    B) I know you'e too smart just to consider sack numbers as entry to the HOF.

Look at Kevin Greene. 10 seasons of double digits sacks. His worst year was in the middle of his career with 3 sacks, but they moved him from olb to de. They moved him back the next season and he started putting up double digits sacks again. Sorry, but Harrison just doesn’t measure up as a hof candidate. Also given the nature of the pro bowl selection process I doubt it holds much weight with the hof selection process.

Actually, you’re wrong on the first. I’ve never considered Harrison as a qualified hof candidate. I really couldn’t care less about him signing with the pats. He wasn’t contributing to the team and it appears he was being a bit of a problem in the clubhouse. Heck if JJ wasn’t a bust Harrison would have been playing for another team long ago(if at all).

Obviously sacks aren’t the end all be all statistic for hof candicacy. However, if you want to discuss his qualifications than you have to look at people that played the same position. Kevin Greene was an outstanding olb. When you compare the two Harrison doesn’t come anywhere close.

Greene was basically dominant for a decade and did it at a time when there was more focus on the running game. Harrison had 3-5 great years in a pass happy league. The rest of his career is very pedestrian. When you take the emotion out of the equation Harrison just doesn’t stack up.

First of all I'm not going to stop anything because DukeDooDoo says so - I didn't say it was the same situation - I stated that his impact as a player with his new team will be about the same as Franco's was when he played briefly with Seattle at the very end of an outstanding career as a great Steeler.

Second I would feel about JH the same way I felt about Bubby Brister raising it twice with the Broncos - good for him, he wasn't contributing as a Steeler any longer and it doesn't really matter what I feel about the situation anyhow - I don't control him - it's a free Country.

Could it have been handled better by all parties - YES. Should it have happened much earlier this season - YES. Do I wish him well in his new zip code and hope he lands another SB ring in Bean Town - HELL NO!

This Harrison thing has become beyond annoying. The guy isn’t any good anymore he’s 40 and can’t run!!!! Let the Pats have him maybe if he doesn’t play enough he can hurt that locker room too!

Hey Moderator, my thread was moved, because you said it wasnt a steeler topic, even though the subject matter involved steeler fans getting hosed by the blatant favortism refs show to insure the cheats will go all the way this year, well how bout moving these James Harrison threads, because he is not a steeler, we cant have all this discussion involving non-steelers can we ?
