Replace Jets with Dolphins and that's the same thing people said a few weeks ago. Replace Jets with 2007 Giants in the Superbowl, same thing. It's the NFL, and on any given Sunday...

You play to win the game. You don't play your second stringers because you assume another team is going to win. Otherwise, what's the point...

The Giants in '07 played the Patriots well during the last regular season game. Giants only lost to the Pats by 3 points. The writing was on the wall. Patriots had some issues vs. stout D lines (Giants)... even though they went undefeated during the regular season.

As long as there's still a chance at the #1 seed you play to win.

Dobbs has been listed as Inactive on Gameday most of the season, you just switch him round with someone and give them the week off. No need to release anyone

I wouldn't play Bell at all. He has had a ton of touches this season, and we need him rested and healthy so that he can make it through the entire playoffs this year. I'd let the backup running backs get needed work and give Ben and his receivers a half to continue working on things without Brown. If we have a lead at halftime and/or the Patriots are up big on the Jets, I'd rest the starters in the second half.

Go with all of the offensive starters for at least first half. If Ben plays, then so should everyone else. Give him the best chance to light up the score board and put the game out of reach by halftime.

I would also plan for quick passes to avoid Ben getting hit. Tell him “No John Wayne”.

The Jets are a lot weaker than the Dolphins, mostly because they don't have a quarterback. Petty is a joke.

That said, you play the starters at least a half. You make sure you win the game just in case something insane happens because you don't give away even a slim chance at the top seed.

Also, I don't like the idea of resting starters before a bye. That seems like a great way to come out rusty in the divisional round. Do any of you want to see them try to come from behind after a lousy start against the Jaguars? I sure don't.

I would like to see a sweep of the AFC North plus a 13-3 record.
Speaking of sweeps. Can you believe the Chicago Bears swept the AFC North also? WTF.

As unlikely as a NE loss is, home field is still a possibility. Have to play to win.

Pull starters if they get a big lead or if NE is killing the Jets.

We're guaranteed a bye, so you dont want to have too much of a layoff with your starters. Get them at least a half.

    Rams swept the AFC South.
    Panthers swept the AFC East.

No AFC team held serve against the NFC.

good questions here, thinking the same.

One thing- New England will likely start the regulars first then pull then. But I don't think they rest anyone who is healthy to start. Meanwhile, remember that there is only so many guys that can be inactive. A lot of regulars have to play, this isn't like preseason when you have 80 guys with a hat.

So, I would keep Ben active, start Landry, and hope/figure he can lead them to a win. I would play Bell a little bit. If it turns out that the Pats are losing late, and we are losing too- then bring Ben in for a comeback.

I'm guessing the only starter who will sit is Pouncey, who has a hip injury that kept him out of practice today.

Anything other than playing to win until the game is out of hand or until the Patriots have blown out the Jets is unacceptable.

Bell is in a rushing title race if that means anything to him or the team ..he's 6 yards back in a 3 horse race

That shouldn't matter at all. All that matters is the top seed and getting ready for the playoffs.

Also, you are incorrect. Bell is leading the league in rushing right now with 21 more yards than Kareem Hunt and 35 more than Todd Gurley. Hunt might get some rest Sunday because the Chiefs are locked in at No. 4, but the Rams still have something to play for, so my guess is Gurley will get the title.

I would've voted for "Sit BB, Bell, etc", but then I thought BB = Bill Belichik... brilliant plan!

But seriously, I think the problem of playing everyone for the 1st half and scoreboard watching is that the Pats usually keep it close in the first half of games, then explode in the 2nd half. So they might not know anything about the way the Pats-Jets game is going until late in the game. Too late to use that strategy, anyway.

I think the Jets have a good shot at beating the cheats. NE has struggled as of late. Furthermore, you do whatever it takes to ensure a rival goes 0-16.

My bad. Apparently, the link I followed at CBSsports.com has the stats wrong. That is odd.

One new bit of information since that post. The Rams are not going to play Gurley and a bunch of other starters Sunday. I haven't seen anything about Hunt, though the Chiefs have nothing to play for as they are locked into the No. 4 seed and they are sitting some starters, including Alex Smith.

Ben drops back, looks left, looks right then BAM gets sacked. He's down, he's down holding his knee. The Steelers take a timeout, going to commercial...

Thinks about that in a meaningless game. We can beat this pathetic team with Laundry at the helm. Keep Ben active in the slightest chance that the planets line up and there is a purple moon that the single engines are beating the cheats. Sorry the single engines are going to get crushed. The cheats will keep their starters in until it's out of control.

Also cue this first sentence but replace with Bell.

Either of those two go down, the parties over...in a meaningless game.

Except it isn't a meaningless game, not until the Patriots win.

Change your scenario. Brady drops back, steps up in the pocket, raises his arm to throw and as it comes forward, he crumples to the ground in pain. It's that Achilles injury that has been bothering him for weeks. Not only is his day done, but the injury causes the pass to flutter into the hands of a Jets defender who returns it for a touchdown. With the Patriots down to Hoyer at quarterback and down seven from the pick-six, the Jets suddenly have a shot, but it won't matter because the Steelers didn't try to beat the Browns.

Flash forward to Jan. 28 and Brady has recovered from the Achilles scare and the Steelers are once again making the trip to New England for the AFC Championship Game. They are doing it because the Jets came through for them Week 17, but the Steelers failed to take care of business against the lowly Browns. This time the fire alarm in their hotel went off twice, at 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Steelers are napping on the sideilne between plays. The headsets are blasting the soundtrack from "Heidi" every other play. The no-huddle sputters in the crowd noise, which you swear is being boosted by the loudspeakers. And the Steelers still come oh-so-close in a game that sure as heck seems like one they would have won at home. Because they lost to the Browns.
