Why play football? Because they can make money at it! Yes, they know the risk, and are free to quit if they don't want the injury risk. But, if they are going to take the risk, I don't begrudge them making as much as they can while taking it.


As far as players of previous generations being more loyal than those of today, I very much doubt it. The Stillers of the '70s didn't stay together out of loyalty, the stayed together because they had no option to move elsewhere. My daughters parakeet is extremely loyal, it never leaves us, it would never think of opening the cage door to go elsewhere.

 

You may be correct and you point is well taken but things were somewhat different back then. Heck, Heinz Ward was basically cut and said he just could not see himself going somewhere else. Get a cat or a second bird and he may think differently, but let’s hope not.

 

The story is breaking that it is the case that he was being a bad teammate and wanted out. In my opinion, that makes it even a worse decision to release him. They rewarded bad behavior and improved our toughest obstacle to #7 in the process. It wasn't just business like Tomlin said when he lied to reporters and fans at the presser. If it was just business, they would have done what the best business decision was and hold him on the roster out of uniform.

Martavis wanted out too and made it more public. We didn't reward him for that (and the team picking him up).

Depending on what JH was doing, the Steelers should have suspended him for the remainder of the regular season and made him sit at home. I'm not shocked that his attitude was crappy based on some of the things I read early on, but if it was as bad as some of the players are starting to insinuate, then the Steelers should have made him sit at home rather than release him.

 

One of the few times we are in agreement if he was being disrespectful in his attitude or going about his business this could really hurt the team building and comraderie they had going on

There's no reason to suspend him unless you're interested in playing some tit for tat childish game. He's acting like a brat so we will do the same? Make no mistake suspending him just creates more drama. Harrison would be in front of every microphone whining. He couldn't do what the Steelers needed him to do anymore. So they moved on. They took the high road through all of this while harrison is whining on social media and in interviews.

If they suspend him, he still takes up a roster spot, thus they'd still have to cut someone. He knew he had the Steelers by the balls, since Shazier went down, which makes his actions more despicable.
