If he was released before Ridley it may have been an option. But it seems Tomlin was well acquainted with Ridley from previous scouting missions so they had some history. Not sure if its the same with Charles or not. I'm OK with either RB, they both have some left in the tank for the back up role. I wonder if Haley would have pushed for Charles?

 

NFL should adopt a rule similar to baseball...need to be on the roster by a given date, in order to qualify for the post season.

So I have to ask you this since you pointed out my hate for Spence, how is it not fair to our guy on the practice squad if we pick up Charles but yet you support the signing of Spence when we had Kelsey on the practice squad? Not picking here just feels like a double standard no?

 

Yes as Charles can still run and he can catch out of the backfield . If Bell goes down as he normally does who would be better Ridley or Charles ? IMO Charles would be much better .

 

Kelsey has no experience, Spence knows the system and has playing time. I’m a Louisville fan and I like Kelsey, but he needs time.

 

Fair to the guys on the practice squad? Who cares? If better talent becomes available over what you have, you need to get it. Practice squad guys come and go like vagabonds, teams cut those guys all the time.

Is it unfair to the guys on the team, when you draft 7-10 new guys every May and some if get more playing time than the players who have been around?

 

Fairness to the practice squad is irrelevant. I just don't think they would make the move after adding Ridley.

So, assuming he does get released and the Steelers want to bring him in, who gets the axe? Ridley? Someone else? You have to figure Fitz is safe because he knows the offense better and blitz pickup. They wouldn't carry 4 RBs, so unless they dump Ridley I don't see who it could be. And I'm not sure I see the team moving on from Ridley that quickly.

 

That was my thought too. He is much more similar to Bell than Ridley is.

 

Fitz is useless. I would definitely take a gamble with Charles. One big play can decide a game and he can provide that. Fitz.....pffft.

 

Elway wouldn't be dumb enough to do that so it's a moot point.

Charles wouldn't get many carries with the Steelers, he was complaining about his role with Denver.

Boggles my mind that this isn't in place already. But may have something to do with the small number of games vs. the massive number MLB plays.
