If it was amicable then I can see him coming back if not he's not. I think McCullers would be less likely but that's just me....

Not a very class move by the Steelers imo. If they needed room for Gilbert, McCullers was the way to go, not like anyone is chomping at the bit to sign that walking Lazy-Boy.

Very surprising to me. Cutting anyone, especially a veteran like James, so late in the season is rough.

So basically coach wasted a roster spot all season to compare him to a vintage car that he’s gonna break out later.
Someone else could have been getting developed.

The awful side of the sport - the business side.
This happened with Hines, it happened with Troy, and it happened with Lebeau. All legends, all forced out of the organization before they thought their time was up here.
What this move says to me is that the Steelers think they are close and that a single roster spot could mean the difference for this team to get over the top. Unfortunately what they’ve seen from James this year doesn’t cut muster.
If this is truly the end, thank you for the memories Deebo!

    Indeed.

Feel bad for PR. How they explain this one will be intriguing.

As a person.... He wanted to baptize his son, girlfriend disagreed and they argued.... She locked herself in her room, he broke the door in, broke her phone and reported slapped her... He manned up to the event, went to counseling, she dropped the charges and they've since been married and happily so... They now have two kids and if you follow him in IG you know his kids , family, are his world. He's a Christian man, father and husband who made a bad decision, and has made the right decisions bettering his and his families life.

They kept Big Dan Cullers and spence over him..... I don't like it at all...

He is at the end of his career but it should have ended after they get number 7!!!! Not now

Given what the Patriots like to do it was dumb to just not wait until the end of the season to release him. Didn't they learn their lesson from Blount?

This one move isn’t gonna put the team over the top.
Offense may be close, but the Defense is a few players away from being solid again.

I didn't see this coming. Somebody will put in a waiver claim on Silverback and only pay $70K for the week.

He could be back on the roster come Monday but part of me thinks Belicheck may go for it.

I understand from a football perspective, but man, I hate this from an emotional perspective. Other than when he kind of whined for more money and didn't get it and went to the Bengals, I've loved just about everything JH has done for the Steelers. I've always thought he was one of the ones that should retire in Black and Gold.

Why do I have the feeling we're going to see him in a Patriots jersey in the near future....

Wow I don't like it. Agreed that he has lost a step but I could see his playoff/Superbowl experiences helping out this team during their run in a few weeks. To me his experience in the post season is worth a roster spot.

I find it hard to believe JH92 would go over there and just spill the beans...even if he hasn't exactly liked the way this year went down.

But I'm a diehard JH92 fan so I could be biased. Just don't see it happening.

After Shazier injury, the heartbreak against New England, and now the release of the inspirational leader and team all time sack leader.

Few players ever leave the game how they want to.... even Ward got released.

He'll live, that's life. I thank him for all he has done, but it was time.

So if he gets the chance in the Playoffs, how hard does he hit Ben?
