Should we draft a QB or sign one in free agency next year?

I would wait. Especially if Ben decides to come back next year. I would load Landry Jones with weapons all around him. Bell, Brown, Bryant (if he gets his head on straight) JuJu, Rogers, draft a TE, draft another WR.

Sign Cousins and use draft picks on the defense

If Allen is there and they pass on him I will be upset, because I think that we will win the SB and Ben will retire, so when that happens we need a backup plan, I mean him and Rudolph are copies of Ben with their physical stature.

For the Allen fans, I’m curious how long you think it will take for him to be NFL ready. His physical tools are undeniable, but he looks to me like a guy who should stay in school another year. I’ve watched 3 or 4 of his games, so a limited sample so far.

these 3 seem like they will be available when we pick. i'd rate them over allen right now. all are above 60% completions, decent size, good TD to interception ratios.

What does our Cap situation look like? I personally believe they will
draft a QB. And use any extra FA money for MLB.

Agreed. Don't see us going 1st roubd LB yet again. Bens clock is quickly ticking down. The time is now to go QB in Round 1.

I'm not buying Walter's scathing review. My choice before the season, during the season and after the season all along has been:

    QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma St

    6'5, 230, mobile, big heart.

Doesn't have a rocket arm but throws a nice deep ball. Great slant and post throw.

65% completion rate. This is key.

If you don' have a 60% comp in college, I'm not looking at you.

Great TD to INT ratio throughout career. Lots of throws on his resume.

He is beloved by his coach. Heart of a warrior.

I have a natural hesitation against Big 12 QBs. Statistically, they don't thrive in the NFL.

I think he plays in the Senior Bowl and will have a great showing.

Trade Martavis Bryant and our first round for the 49ers first round. Draft Josh Rosen. Win for the next ten years. (Pipe dream, I know, but wouldn’t the rest of the league scream like a stuck pig if that one could be pulled off?) I do hope Rosen does not go to the Browns, they will ruin him.

Laundry has had sufficient chances to prove he is the guy, and he ain’t.

I played with fanspeak you’re on the clock and was able to get Mason Rudolph in the first round. Watch some video of him, he sometimes actually looks like Ben on the field but is not as near to being NFL ready as Rosen. I think the Steelers should draft him.

I still say Alex Smith is the best option if we look at FAs. One year left on his contract for 14.5mil. Seek a trade or maybe KC releases him outright in favor of Mahomes.

I'm still taking a QB in rnd 1 if the opportunity is there.

I think we should start looking for ILB in FA period.

Ben will be back, but I like Riley Ferguson almost as much as anyone at QB in the draft.

How did that other Memphis QB of about 3 years ago work for you? John Elway?

Point taken but Memphis was a really good team this year.

Ferguson out dueled Josh Rosen, who will go #1.

Memphis also went toe to toe with UCF and Iowa St.

There are some things that I didn't like from Ferguson vs Iowa St. He is really skinny and questionable arm strength.

I will keep an eye on him but I think he is more of a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

    Work for me?

I was thinking at the end of 3, if he is there or Josh Allen at the end of 1.

It's early in the process so it's very fluid, but Denver had at all hands at Wyoming's bowl game. I wouldn't doubt at all that Allen is Elway's type of guy.

Draft or free agency...we need the next franchise Steeler QB because Landry Jones is not the guy. I don’t know if I can handle the pre-Ben QB carousel experiment again. If so, it will be a long few years of watching Steeler football without the next franchise QB. You can’t win in this league without a stud QB.

To be honest with you, my QB choice(Clayton Thorson) has decided to go back to school, I was also hoping the kid from Miss, St (Fitzgerald) may come out

but he too will be heading back to school. I am still studying. I want a QB that has all the tools, accurate, read and recognize coverages,

can make all the throws. Can win within the pocket. Would prefer QB that has played/grew up in bad/snow/cold weather.
