Tomlin is very private when a personal question is asked. When they asked him in the press conference about how he was handling coaching with Ryan Shazier on his mind he shut them right down.

Here's a new update on Shazier. It's not looking like a basic concussion as he will be held back in Cincy for further testing and monitoring. So not heading back to Pitt today as reported yesterday. Let's hope it's just a precaution and not a serious contusion.

Doctor's opinion from last evening based on initial reports (not a doctor that treated Shazier though)

Big Ben said he’s got encouraging news and VW said he has been texting with Shazier and he is straight and going to be alright.

One thing I hope everyone learned from this is DON'T TACKLE WITh YOUR HEAD DOWN! It is truly how you get hurt. If his head was up, he probably would have been fine.

Shazier does this ALOT. I commented to someone recently that, while he's a freak of nature athletically, he seems to play out of control at times. If and when he does come back, I really hope he works on a heads up tackling technique. That crown of the helmet stuff has to stop!

Did Troy ever tone down his recklessness?

It' probably part of what made him special.

That being said if Shazier gets back on to the field, please keep your head up. Can' go through this again.

He really needs to dedicate part of his training to proper technique.. More importantly than any cardio or weight training. It NEEDS to be part of his everyday routine....next time he won't be as lucky

We need to keep sending prayers. The next 48 hours are critical. He's apparently regained some movement but it doesn't sound like it's complete yet. For spinal concussions, it's usually within 24 hours. For contusions, it's within 72 hours. After that, recovery can still happen over the next 6-12 months but it's limited. Most healing is in the immediate hours after swelling goes down.

It looks like Shazier is back in Pittsburgh which is good news. However, no new updates on his condition. That's a bit concerning. It probably means they still aren't sure how much he'll regain.

Has there ever been an injured NFL player who's prognosis and condition were kept so tightly under wraps? Every statement and update is essentially nothing. I'm not really complaining, just a serious question.

I know, I honestly still don't know what to think and how bad this could possibly be. I feel like all we know is that he is moving is legs now. How much/often? No idea.

The less we hear the more serious I think it is.

The lack of information is most like a lack of information. Until the swelling goes down, you don’t know.

I think a lot of it comes from the fact the doctors just don't know. It's probably the same with head injuries. Do they have a rough idea, yea probably, but back/spine and head injuries are always tough to draw a bead on. I'm sure they don't want to come out and say one thing then 2 days later, it all changes. jmo.

Would they transport him if his condition wasn’t improving? You would think they’d want him in good shape before moving him? Otherwise why do it?

I don’t know, I’m grasping at straws, like everyone else, until we hear something definitive.
