I'm pretty sure all this terminology being thrown around is wrong (started by Gruden). I'm pretty sure a crackback block has specific definitions and relates to mostly behind or near the line of scrimmage, and is mostly for hits below the knees. The juju hit discussion is purely about defenseless player hits, not "crackbacks".

Article 2 relates to crackback blocks below the waist....
ARTICLE 2. ILLEGAL CRACKBACK BLOCK. It is an Illegal Crackback Block if a defensive player is contacted below the waist within an area five yards on either side of the line of scrimmage, including within close-line play, by an offensive player who is moving toward the position from which the ball was snapped, if:

    1. (1) the offensive player was in a set position and aligned more than two yards outside an offensive tackle (flexed) when the

      ball was snapped; or

    2. (2) the offensive player was in a backfield position when the ball was snapped and moved to a position more than two yards

      outside an offensive tackle; or

    3. (3) the offensive player was in a backfield position and in motion when the ball was snapped.
Article 7 applies to defenseless players

He’s not a defenseless player in that situation. Every play shown for “blindside” or “crackback” that shows a hit with the shoulder to the front of the players chest is a legal hit.

Call it dirty it you want. It was a nasty hit, but by the examples shown not an illegal hit.

Even the example of the “Hines Ward” rule shows a side hit coming back towards the play.

He should not be suspended at all. Compare that to Gronk and there is not comparison. A Fine...yes he violated the rule and the standing over him was not good. It’s amazing though that it’s illegal to run parallel to the goal and hit but if he didn’t , Burfict would have crowned Bell from the side. They are over policing

Section 2.1 makes it crystal clear. You can't hit a player in the helmet or face mask with your helmet, shoulder, arm etc. it was an illegal hit.

He would need to extend his arms and contact him, they are looking to require hands first blocking in HS.

The hit on Brown in the End Zone was worse.. That should be fined ten times more.

If Juju gets a suspension and this ilocka a-hole walks away clean on the brown hit you know goodell hates us.

No way that deserves a suspension. He'll get a fine. Whatever. Burfict had it (and more) coming.

Agreed. Been looking for the perfect one. But this will do for now. I used to have Hines over Rivers as mine until someone else started using it. Just changed it so there would be no confusion over who was who. We'll see soon how many people start clamoring for a good Juju avatar. :lolol:

In hockey, you are taught to keep your head up and on a swivel at all times, particularly when handling the puck. Different sport/situation I realize, but #55 in orange/ black has to share some responsibility. He is a pro, plays the game on the and over the line his entire career. He should realize that he is a potential target on him on every play.

I am sorry but I loved the hit. :applaud::dancing: :rawk: I said I wasnt going to buy a jersey this year but I may get me a JuJu one.

That POS deserved it and Im glad JuJu gave it to him. If you notice he was going after Bell. Maybe JuJu was making sure Bell didnt get hurt again by this POS. :nono:

    Somewhere Hines is smiling.

I wonder if the Rooneys had a secret meeting with him and told him, "Son, welcome to the family." :herewego!::steelflag::smashbengals:

Forget "peel back" or " crackback"
It was helmet to helmet. Gonna get called every time. I don't care if he hit him with his pinky first, helmets hit and it was a penalty.

I believe it was called "Unnecessary Roughness" based on Burfict being deemed defenseless.

    Rule 12. Player Conduct
    SECTION 2 - PERSONAL FOULS

ARTICLE 7. PLAYERS IN A DEFENSELESS POSTURE

It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.

    a. Players in a defenseless posture are:
    ....
    10. A player who receives a “blindside” block when the path of the offensive blocker is toward or parallel to his own end line.

    b. Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
      1. forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him

How is it not? Both targeted the head. The NFL doesn't tolerate head shots anymore, period.

The reality is if that hit was the only thing that happened in that game, the league might have ignored it. But with the Shazier injury, Juju's hit, the taunting and then Iloka targeting Brown's head, the league likely decided to just come down on everyone. That was a nasty, injury filled game.

If he hadn't taunted, he might have got away with just a fine. But he targeted the head and then stood over him. That's not really ok.

Are you serious? You don't see a difference between blocking a guy during a play and a spear to a guys back, when he's face down on the field, after the play? And you're saying if other things hadn't happened in the game, the league might have let it go? Makes no sense.

I figured a fine would be coming, but for JuJu to get the same punishment as Gronk, is asinine.

First, the rule doesn't simply say "a player". It says, "Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture..."

Burfict wasn't defenseless. He was squared to JuJu AND Lev. He wasn't blindsided. He wasn't cracked back. He ran into a vicious block.

The taunting is another issue entirely. JuJu needs to be smarter.
