Curse those splinters that players get from riding the bench. Deebo was inactive earlier because of his back and now he's not practicing because of his knee.

    CURSE THOSE SPLINTERS!

This is James needing to play football to allow his body to adjust to minor aches and pains so he can destroy on Sundays or Mondays if the schedule calls for it

Or it’s just that he’s played football for a long time and his body is finally breaking down. You can be in great physical shape and not be able to perform at a high level anymore. Troy P is a great example. Nobody can question his physical conditioning, but his speed and explosiveness had fallen off a cliff. He made the occasional big play in his final year or two, but the decline was very apparent.

If this were any other 39 year old linebacker not named James Harrison, would the Steelers have already cut bait?

I always felt concussions were the biggest reason for Troy's decline.

I think it's just that they've got nothing else. If we are lucky he can make an impact in the playoffs and then it's time for him to get on with his life's work.

I think he’s proven this year he can still play. Watt and Chicola are the reasons he is not playing. Had they drafted someone other than Watt, maybe he would be playing more.

Harrison is fine, the reason he isn't playing is because of STs...Moats and Chickillo play it. Although I'm quite sure we can do without Moats on STs the staff is playing it safe with James's health and he makes a great insurance policy. Chickillo isn't even getting any real reps. They are clearly rolling with Dupree and Watt the entire game. While I think it's a mistake not using more of a rotation it's just not part of their plan. I guess they figure right now Moats value on STs is more important than JHs 10-15 snaps a game....

Imo they are underestimating the presence that Harrison has on the field. To me the D seems to rise to another level when he is out there...if Shazier is a no go this week I hope they activate Harrison and use him and Watt all over the front seven.

He's played less than 30 snaps out of over 700. I would say he hasn't proven anything.

I realize you can’t extrapolate much out of 30 snaps. He has 1 sack in those 30. But, if he did that over 700 snaps it would equate to 23 sacks. I’d take that over 12 games.

I would agree that nothing can be extrapolated statistically, but to me he looked as good as he did last year in his 4th quarter closer role in KC. I wouldn't sit Watt for JH, but I wouldn't mind seeing JH get some late game situational pass rushing snaps instead of watching Dupree get consistently pushed past the pocket.

Maybe it's just me, but if Harrison was outperforming anyone he wouldn't be riding the pine. If you're better than the next guy you play. if not you stay clean and skip the post game shower.

Well, I know that he was on the injury report for a back injury for a few weeks, so that may have contributed to his lack of playing time. I'm not saying that he has enough left to be an every down OLB anymore (though I also have no clear basis for saying he can't), but the KC game showed me that he can still get after the QB when working against OTs - something that has been challenging for Dupree.

James Harrison has earned the right to sit and wait this season. His presence in the locker room, film room, weight room (in which I believe is why he is injured) is without parallel. If he doesn't take another snap his worth and what he has brought to this team is enough to warrant a spot for this season.

Don't worry, the playoffs are right around the corner and he will play a part.

Its pretty funny that the complaint use to be that the rookies couldn't get on the field because of the vets and now the complaint is a vet cant get on the filed because of the rookies :lolol:

Let's all relax all JH has to do is make one play. Hit Brady so hard he breaks leaving him rolling on the turf in agony.

Then we can all say after we win #7 thank you for your service enjoy your retirement.

I never understood that complaint at all. When you know the playbook and you're actually better than the vet you play. Until then you work until you know the playbook and are actually better.
