If the Steelers don't beat the Patriots

    This season against Brady and Belichick it may never happen, there's no guarantee Bell and Ben return in 2018. I would like to think the Steelers wouldn't lose twice this season to the Patriots, a possible rematch in the AFCCG. My biggest concern is the secondary, Brady will be licking his chops to throw deep to Brandon Cooks. Sorry Glen for another Patriots thread :roflmao:.

    I don't think the Steelers are gonna beat the Patriots this year or any time soon as long as Brady and Belichick are running things. If we could borrow Jacksonville's D... maybe.

    The Steelers have about 10% chance of winning if Haden returns for December 17th.

    I like being wrong sometimes but I see a 3 game losing streak on the horizon and finishing 11-5.
    Inconsistency is taking its toll and other teams are getting stronger as they move forward.

    Boy is the chicken little brigade out in full force, How are they inconsistent when they are consistently winning games? What have Cincy and the model of inconsistency the 6-5 Ravens have done for you to think they could beat the Steelers especially since they have already kicked their asses earlier this year?

    You know it is entirely possible that the Steelers and Patriots won't face each other in the playoffs.
    Either one of us could lose to somebody else.

    I know the AFC isn't attractive, but who seriously thought the Jets with Mark Sanchez would go beat the Pats in the divisional round in 2010.
    That kept the Steelers from going to Foxboro that year.

    Heck we may lose in the divisional round. Nothing is guaranteed.

    This team can win without Haden, the question is will coaching stop us??? If we bring pressure and not play that stupid zone rushing 2-3 people this team can CRUSH the Cheats!!!!!! jmo

    Steelers like to bring pressure from the outside. The Patriots OTs are too damn good. History has shown pressure must be applied from the middle to have any chance against the Patriots. Until the Steelers can figure out how to do this without getting torched, the results will be the same.

    Of course the Steelers can win without Haden. They've done it twice already. They just can't beat the Patriots without Haden, IMO.

    Except this year the majority of the pressure is coming from the inside, as is evidenced by Heyward's team leading 9 sacks. In fact, 23 of the team's 38 sacks have come from the defensive line or middle linebackers.

    We have the personnel to pressure inside. Heyward is an excellent interior rusher, and both Hargrave and Tuitt are solid. VW has - I believe - 6 sacks blitzing up the middle. Watt can drop into coverage as well as any 3-4 OLB in the league, so he can be an effective part of the game plan even with minimal pass rushing opportunities. The weak link in the front 7 for that strategy is Dupree. He hasn’t figured out how to harness his natural gifts to rush the passer, and his instincts in coverage present a big matchup advantage to the Pats.

    I do think we’ll see a different approach to rushing the passer in the Pats game, and a different approach to coverage. After last year’s debacle, I’m guessing that our coaches have been preparing all offseason to combat not only what the Pats have put on tape this year, but also what they can do with their personnel to be able to handle the wrinkles. Recall that last year the Pats went 4 wide for more snaps in the 1st half against us than they had done in 17 games leading to the AFCCG. That was a big part of our confused coverage.
