I had an amazing time at my first game. It was so cool seeing Heinz field lit up at night next to the river. I was hanging out with my brother and friend for an hour drinking outside the stadium with fellow steelers fans. The stadium was electric and all I saw was terrible towels waving. It was an epic finish with Boswell hitting the game-winner from 53 yards!

    Great to hear! :herewego:

Did you like the Renegade video? That's one of my favorite things about attending Stiller games.

For the past 2 Games, they played Renegade twice.

Yeah, the renegade video was epic, the whole crowd was going nuts when it came on! Damn, I forgot to mention, the best part JuJu signed my Leveon Bell shirt.

Mhm, that's interesting... Unfortunately, I have not made a game this year. Once each half or at big moments in the second half?

Now that's pretty cool. JuJu is turning into everyones favorite Steeler week by week. Seems like a great guy, also.

I might get kicked out of this group and my Steelers cred revoked but, I'm not big on the Renegade song.

I even grew up in a classic rock household and loved Styx as a kid, but kind of grew into a much broader range of music and see the song itself as pretty korny.

Of course, I'm down with them having and playing a hype song/video at stratigic moments of the game but I wish it was a song with - I don't know - more balls....?!?!???? The song's theme isn't even relevant that I can tell. It's also a song that came out before anyone of the players was even born. I know it's kinda neutral lyrically and just as much for the fans, but I just wish it were a different (see: *better*) song. I cringe when it comes on.

I'm sure if the players chose it would be some other new pop rap song that I don't like either that wouldn't personally hype me or have the right energy (for me).

My first game at Heinz Feild was an incredible experience. It was a Monday night game with perfect 68 degree weather and we beat the Ravens in overtime. The game when Lewis broke Mendenhall's collarbone. Amazing night.

If it was a rap song I would not enjoy it at all, lol. I don't know, Renegade just gives it a blue collared Pittsburgh feel, thats what I think, at least.

Yep you might, taking Renegade away is like taking the Terrible Towel away. You can't let history go, the Steelers are built on history.....

The magic began January 5, 2002 during a playoff game against Cleveland. The Browns held a 17-7 halftime lead. By the beginning of the second half they stretched it out to 24-7.

The Steelers were lagging. Their offense was stagnant, as their only points came on an Antwaan Randle El punt return for a touchdown. Their offense stalled again and was forced to punt. During the commercial break, the crew at JumboTron control made a choice that forever changed Pittsburgh history.

As the slow, melodic intro echoed out across the depressed fans, everyone felt the sense of failure. Even the music controller gave up. 45 seconds later, the atmosphere changed. The screams of the song gave fans a needed wake up call, and the stadium became alive with excitement.

The crowd was back in the game, and the team responded. Their defense stopped the Browns. Tommy Maddox followed by leading a 66-yard drive to pay dirt to cut the lead to 24-14.

Pittsburgh ousted Cleveland 22-9 in the fourth quarter. The final quarter was capped off by Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala’s touchdown run and Randle El’s pass to Jerame Tuman for the two-point conversion.

The Steelers would go on to get screwed out of a win in Tennessee the next week. However, the lore of "Renegade" was stuck.

Now, during the third quarter of every Steelers home game, a video compilation of defensive plays are shown with the utter rocking of "Renegade" in the background.

I've been to many games and I hardly ever see anyone not standing and going nuts when Renegade comes on.
The fans and the players love it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this opinion of Renegade. I like Styx but that song is overrated... like the Steelers offense this year until the last two games.

I'm also a VA Tech fan. Don't get me started on Enter Sandman. I love Metallica's 80's albums before Bob Rock started producing the MTV-friendly crap. I cringe every time I see the Hokies run out on to the field with that song (Enter Sandman) blaring. It also didn't help that I played bass for cover bands in the early 90's... and had to play that damn song every gig.

I’m with you guys I would never listen to renegade on my own, but when it was playing at Steelers games it was pretty epic! I wish they played For Whom The Bell Tolls, or 2 Minutes To Midnight, those are my go to workout songs.

Battery, Blackened or Damage Inc. by Metallica would be fantastic theme songs for the Steelers, in my opinion. The intros to Blackened and Battery are epic. Pantera has a few good ones, too.

That’s great information, I didn’t know how it started. I remember watching the game at home.

Every game I’ve ever gone to, they played it before a defensive series in the 4th quarter.

I'm not trying to take it away at all, NEVER. I was just simply saying that the song falls flat to me and I wish it were different. When I'm at a game I get just as jazzed in the moment with all my other brethren, but because of the video clips and the crowd energy, but def NOT the tune.

I don't even tell my other family and friends about it who are not Steelers fans while watching games on TV because it's just - like I said...kOrNeY.

I love the history and the story of its derivation.

Eh, it's like pseudo tension. Might as well be Nickleback.
