Pretty expensive learning experience isn't it. I wonder why these guys do not just listen to the medical staff

and not take a chance trying to fix something themselves?

Except he got suspended for his actions; which is indirectly the same thing.

Self centered move. He cost himself not only more playing time but trust as well. How much trust we will have to find out.

It's in the CBA about the NFL not being able to disclose what they tested for, so I would assume that the Players union has an agreement with the players as well as a sort of solidarity thing.

I believe the player can come out and say whatever the want to about what they were caught with.

Yep. Spend any time around a bunch of strong, athletic guys and you'll realize how widespread steroid use is. It's the same with cops, correctional officers, etc. He got caught when most guys don't.

Sutton has been put on the roster. It makes sense if Gilbert is hurt and nowhere near being healthy. We need to see if Sutton can help us in the playoffs. Basically had two roster spots tied for injured players. We don't even know if Haden will be able to comeback. So it's smart to try to see what we got in Sutton while keeping the possibility of Haden coming back.

he hasn't played much this year anyway so we carry on without him. is he allowed to practice during the suspension? if not that's a long time to be out of the mix.

He cannot practice with the team during the suspension, but he has two weeks of regular season to work his way back in for the playoffs. That should be plenty for a veteran tackle. The larger issue is holding up on the line while he is out.

Not allowed to be with the team at all -- no practice, no meetings, can't even work out alone in the building.

So you're suggesting that the Steelers asked a player to flunk a drug test so they could free up a roster spot?
This is why no one takes your posts seriously around here.

He's started half the games at RT this year.
We're 5-0 with Gilbert as the starter and 3-2 with Hubbard. Just sayin.

Some posts truly are too silly to deserve a response. Thinking they would want Gilbert suspended so they can activate Sutton is clearly one of them.

And the offense seemed to be finding its stride since the second half of the Colts game, Gilbert's return to the lineup, while they struggled up front without Gilbert in the two losses.

From what players say, probably 50% or more of the players are on PEDs; they just know how to do them without being caught. Gilbert got caught.

Supplements and inadvertent doping - how big is the risk to athletes.

Judkins C, et al. Med Sport Sci. 2012.

    Abstract
Despite ongoing improvements to regulatory and manufacturing guidelines, the potential for contaminated nutritional supplements to cause a failed doping test for an athlete remains a concern. Several surveys of supplements available through the internet and at retail have confirmed that many are contaminated with steroids and stimulants that are prohibited for use in elite sport.

LINK, for the nerds out there.

It's a good chance that Gilbert used PED's on and off his entire career. It's possible he wouldn't had received a big time deal if he didn't use PED's. For many players the long term benefits out weighs the long term risks. Player can't be as good without PED's.

I'm sure the NFL takes notice when a player returns from injury and are sure to put them on the "random" drug test list for their first couple games back. Gilbert was probably rushing to return from injury for this SB run and took a gamble. It didn't pay off this time. Not the first and not the last time.

Hopefully Hubbard will step up in his absence. I am curious about Jerald Hawkins development though. Seems they were very high on him last preseason up until the injury but IIRC, Matt Feiler was activated ahead of him a couple weeks ago. I seem to recall Hawkins looking bad this year in the preseason so maybe Feiler has overtaken him?? The o-line depth always interests me, but the info is hard to come by.

I disagree, I think he just took something to help him get back from injury quicker.
