hopefully it isn't serious and he doesn't miss any time. He's the best run blocking TE we have and it's not even close. Our run game goes when he's on the field.

Didn't see that during the game. Hope he's good because you're right, he's a good run blocker. He has bricks for hands, but he can block

He caught 2 of 3 today for 30 something yards, but that endzone drop sucked.

It did suck and was definitely a drop but it is not one I would expect him to make. He had to turn the opposite direction from how he was running and immediately pick up the ball and catch a rifle throw. He simply is not that good a receiver that I would expect him to make that catch. AB gets it way more often than not, imo.

He is what he is. Still stretched the field some. He will improve some more

I have come to love how well he can block and the hustle he has. That said, the reason he was let go from the 49ers is what we have witnessed from him so far, he has caught 3 passes and dropped 3 passes and one was a sure TD right in his hands. He can block but no team is going to pay him several million a year just to block. I just don't think you have him in the game in the red zone, he is too shaky catching the ball and you can't fix that, you can either catch or you can't, a 50% drop rate is not good and he has dropped a good number of TD passes with his past team, use him to block and then draft a TE and let him go next season.

Chase Williams of WPXI (think that is the Pittsburgh news station anyway) stated on Twitter that Vance was probable to return.

If that is the case, we should have little to worry about.

    This is true.

In his defense though, he did look in sync with the offense before those drops.

Now maybe they will remember Jesse James is a good pass catching tight end

We obviously have different definitions of playing well.

You have to run past the sticks and then sit in the zone.

McDonald had one drop albeit a critical one. I am optimistic about this dude. Shows heart, awesome blocker and has speed. Need JJ for the red zone though

you also have to catch the ball which he did in between double coverage. it was a bad spot too. i do agree he needed to run it a little deeper.

If he’s not open then you move onto your next read. It doesn’t change the fact you have to run your route past the first down marker.

You guys do realize that Vance was picked up because he is a much better downfield option, than any TE we have?

What good is that if he can't catch it? I talked to some 49er fans who said they held out hope he would get better but he always seemed to drop passes at critical times like extending drives or scoring. The worst part is he can get open and run after the catch but the catching part is the one thing he has trouble with and it is the most important, too bad J.James can't run like he can, he'd be hard to stop.

It's hard to catch anything when you have zero targets.

I think we're all forgetting he had a really nice catch over the middle for big yardage - not that he'd ever be confused for Heath - but it was Heath-like.

Vance 2 for 37... Ben was 14/24 and McDonald dropped one. Conner was 3 for 19 with a ten yard run. so 2 for 4.5? Maybe he should play more too.
