I've come to conclusion that Todd Haley was an old World War II bomber in a past life, and that he has flash backs on 3rd and short situations of his past life.

Run a deep route, fine... but you better at least have your RB and TE running outlet passes in case it isn't there.

This is exactly where I stand with it. If we had plays that put the players in position to succeed, and we started to see conversions, then I would be on board. But it's not working right now. So tell to O-Line to man up and run for that yard.

    Keep the chains moving.

Once the team is consistently connecting on the deep pass, then go ahead and dial up the occasional bomb on 3rd and 1. Until then, cut it out.

Well, on that 3rd and 1...he had bryant in a one on one to the right and never looked his way. Before the snap, I thought he was trying to act like he didnt see and then hit bryant for a big play. But, he waited until brown came all the way from the left and the pass was broken up

    Exactly.

Or at the very least have AB take off, then cut back after 6-7 yards to create space for the catch.

It's maddening and what's worse no one has to take accountability for it. We don't know who the driving force is behind 3-1 plays being bombs so often. Ben? Todd? Mike? No one has to say.

Yep, that creature in New England knows that and it drives me crazy when I decide to torture myself and watch one of their games.

Well since they had a 3rd and 1 and a 4th and 1 and didnt get either. I dont have a problem with it. I do have a problem with bryant effort on that ball

Thankyou thankyou thankyou ...I'm glad someone brought this up. I thought the same thing. With 9 in the box, both Brown & Bryant had single coverage, but Bryant is a bigger target ...I thought he was gonna finally get a target for a quick back-breaking touchdown. But no he had to force it to Brown again...

If we were scoring td's in the red zone, this wouldn't be an issue. Wait...if we were scoring td's in the red zone, we probably wouldn't be so desperate to score from the 50.

But seriously, I don't mind taking a shot on 3rd and 1 once a game if we've got the right matchup/coverage. It's like the fake punt. Once in a while you catch them napping.

Our QB is 6' 5" 245 pds our OL avg's 310 across the board, and we know the snap count

and we can't QB sneak sometimes? Makes you wonder doesn't it? We have Rosie Nix
at 250 James Conner at 233, we can't devise a play to make 1 yard?

Actually, we were pretty good on 3rd and 1 long balls in 2015. We sucked at it last year. I thought the difference was Bryant but it ain’t not non no working this year.

This seems to be more of Ben's doing than anyone else imo. He said last year or in 2015 that he would choose to go long on 3rd and short because the defense wasn't expecting it. And it worked for awhile. But when you attempt that deep ball more often than not.....capt obvious can fill in the rest. Ben gets in a mental rut sometimes imo. The real question if my assumption is correct that its on Ben, is why doesn't Haley grow a spine and tell him to stop or try something else more effective?

Danny Smith and Jordan Berry are the only fans of these 3rd & short bombs away tactics lately.

I wonder if it's actually Ben changing the play at the line? If we can tell the bomb is coming on 3rd and short, so can other teams defenses. I can't believe Haley would call for this play that consistently.

Ben said if he sees a favorable matchup hes going to throw it deep. Thats fine, if he sees something, he should try to exploit it. The problem is, he cant throw the deep ball anymore.

Ben never could throw the deep ball. I feel like the number of times Ben has thrown an over the shoulder ball to a WR in stride more than 30 yards down the field is in the single digits. He has had success with deep balls because of his improvisational skills, so the WR is so wide open that a sloppy throw doesn't matter as much. His escapeability is down the tubes which means his deep ball success goes with it.

He's struggled with the deep ball this season. It's not arm strength which is something aging QB's lose. It's accuracy. He's overthrow a lot.
Ben will be fine and it'll start showing up soon.
