Like I said in the other thread about this is it would be much more symbolic (and helpful) if it was Alex Smith retiring today as a Chef, Niner, Steeler, Powder Puffer - whatever...................

I miss him. He was basically AB minus the antics, running his mouth, and complaining about stats 24/7.

nah I have to disagree, Santonio wasn't close in terms of ability compared to AB. But santonio has a special place in my heart for hanging on to that 6th trophy in front of 3 defenders.

Of course he wasn't as talented as AB. I rewatched that Super Bowl not too long ago and watching Holmes just take over the game. I'd take a receiver with Holmes ability and not all the antics that come with AB any day.

Holmes on the last drive on Super Bowl 43 was special. He lived in the moment and was unstoppable.

His best years were here. Too bad his off the field troubles, left to his release from the Steelers. He was a great player the whole 2008 playoffs, no way we won the superbowl that season without him.

Against the Chargers, Ravens, and the Cardinals, he turned in a great performance each time.

Well earned Super Bowl MVP as well

I do my best to stay away from off field situations. Try to keep it about the sport only. Holmes will always be a hero to me for that catch and that playoff performance.

I think a tough one for us to swallow would have been if "the Bus's" fumble on the goal line against Indy in the playoff game would have got us beaten. We all loved the BUS but Ben doesn't make that tackle he never gets a ring and I wonder how his history would have been remembered for Steeler fans. I do miss yelling "BUS" when he was bumping heads with Ray Lewis.

I'm not sure why exactly this was a big press event? I guess you have to since he is a Superbowl MVP, but otherwise... Only 4 seasons here... thats not very long.

I'll always have fond memories of Holmes. Ben and Holmes always had good chemistry. There's always the catch in the superbowl but I'll always remember him being a Ravens killer

Watched highlights of him. Dude was a beast for that run.

Also look at ben zip those long balls.

Accurate bombs + shedding blitzers and making the extended play was what made him good.

Then his zip lost its zap, he lost a step, defenses realized to stop blitzing and the giant fell down lol.

How can any fan have animosity towards Holmes? Thats bizarre to me.

Huge part of why we have 6 SB trophies and not 5.

    Thanks Santonio! :steelflag:

Passion. Intensity. Desire to win. Fierce Competitor. Tough. Not a perfect career with the Steelers. But this organization and fan base will forever be in debt to Santonio Holmes for playing a major role in winning #6. :herewego:

If his career had went the way it should have, he would be suiting up on Sunday against the Chiefs...

I don't want to hate on the guy, but damn, man...what could have been? I'd take a Santonio in his prime over Martavis, for sure!

I don't have animosity to him. It was a shame when he was traded, but longer term the right decision. Before that, he was a game changer and no mistake.

I find it amusing that he's being held up as an angel next to AB though. The guy demanded the ball and had his issues as much as any WR.

This isn't accurate at all. Holmes had antics and demands aplenty. Even on the Super Bowl drive he's on at Ben to throw the ball at him more.

He was a good player and he gave us some fantastic play. No need to make him into something more than that.

I dont remember the AB antics but that could be because that stuff doesnt bother me that much, a lot of WR's for whatever reason are divas. I only recall that his time in Pittsburgh was shortened because of his weed habit.

But I thought the steelers pulled the trigger on him a little premature, they could have salvaged him but chose to dump him for a 5 pick and it wasnt like he was on a 1 year suspension like someone we all know............

If I remember correctly, I think I read somewhere he lied to them and that was the deal breaker.

Bell lied about missing his drug teats, evidently lying is acceptable now:

    From 12 UP:
Le'Veon Bell will serve a four-game suspension at the beginning of the season for missing multiple drug tests. He's expected to appeal, but that's not looking awfully good for him.

When he was originally asked about missing the test, Bell claimed he had no knowledge of the situation.

In the least shocking news of the offseason, Bell was apparently lying. On Thursday, the Steelers running back admitted that.

Santonio Holmes will be the last Steelers Super Bowl MVP for a long time... unless Tomlin and Colbert strike QB gold in the 2018 draft.

I went to the draft day in 2006 at Heinz Field and can remember like it was yesterday how badly I wanted them to take Nick Mangold and they selected Holmes instead. I was so disappointed and thought they would regret that decision for a very long time.

When he made that game winning catch in the Superbowl all was right with the Steelers decision on that draft day.

Mangold had a great career but no rings to show for it. Santonio made some bad decisions that really negated his overall Steelers career but winning the SB goes a long way to him being a life long Steeler even though he spent such a short time here.
