Ben is actually still young enough to be competitive, but of you don't have the passion to be a champion anymore (thinking about retiring)....just do the honorable thing and pass the torch. Now, these are Ben's words:

    Article:

After throwing a career-worst five interceptions, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said what many wrote on social media after the Steelers’ 30-9 loss to the Jaguars.

“Maybe I don’t have it anymore,”...

We've seen him throw pick-6(s) before. Not new.
Who on the staff is the guy to get in his head and calm him down?
Does he have a QB coach?
    What good is Haley for?

Either fight until the end (this seasons end) or be a quitter and go sit in the bench.

Oh yeah and practice should start tomorrow!

If he feels that way I am worried, maybe we need to go to Dobbs and see what happens. I think when your QB says this after he talked about retirement in the off season you have to be worried.

I've always wondered why Randy Fichtner is the QB coach. Call me crazy but I'd want a QB coach who actually played QB.

After the third or maybe fourth I'd have set him down to preserve something of his identity and kept him from getting further into the hole.

    Not the first time.
    "Maybe I'll retire"

Yes, he's always been a Drama Queen. But he's getting too far now with his statements

If you think you can, or you think you can't, you are probably right.

I think this phrase fits in rather well now.

Maybe he should start by just not talking so much. Everything that comes out of his mouth just sounds whiney....Then he could start by showing what a true leader is by getting his ass out on the practice field on Wednesday instead of the obligatory day off. This team needs a leader more than ever right now and actions speak louder than words...

They need one guy to say to Ben what he said to Bettis in '05. Give me a chance Ben and I'll get you a SB.

I am all for looking at a high QB draft pick next year. Five pix, 2 pix 6's...does any supposed "elite QB" have a game like this? I don't recall one. And for those snickering at the Jags, well, they aren't so funny now. Classic Ben/Tomlin team: Don't wake up early in the season - just play like crap and show no urgency. I am sick of it. It won't happen, but I would love nothing more than to clean house. I am so sick of the "Cool Shades" stare as his team get's its tail kicked in. His team craps the bed and he is clueless as what to do about it. Most overrated coach in the NFL.

And see, all most folks outside of here are gonna spout is "see brown wanted to kneel"... Teams in the headlines for all the wrong reasons because of personal choice, personal stupidity, personal drama, forced apologies, etc... This locker room is a mess like it deny it or don't.

Frustration speaking. I cant see him quitting on the team, he'll still give it his all. Just dont know if his all is enough anymore.

Next week will be telling. If he can have a break out game, I can see that getting him back on track. Another dud and Im afraid he'll be lost for the rest of the year.

This may be blasphemy to many but I'd like to see new Steeler ownership. The Rooneys are too wrapped up in previous successes and are hesitant to evolve to today's NFL. I know it will never happen though.

His all is MORE than enough, but like they did a dead arm Payton (which Ben's arm is still 5-10 years from noodling that bad) in Denver, things need adjusting playbook wise. Even with a spry Ben this playbook SUCKS! It's beyond predictable and situationally stupid. It's to the point that all the opposing D has to do is execute their homework... Yes it's that bad!

I like Tomlin, I like Haley and both have earned their merits.... Where they are lacking, is cleaning this **** up! Quit putting the same team/same plan on the field week after week expecting positive results. This teams talent is gonna notch a few on its own, proper planning would get them over the hump. It's maddening. Like I said in other threads today, if Haley is insistent on beating his head against the same wall... **** can him now! If everybody is bowing to Ben and the results are what we're seeing, take him out especially if he's already gone. For the love of sweet honey producing beehives, switch **** up!!!!

That someone has to be someone who commands not only the resepct of the lockeroom but his as well.

Someone like Antonio Brown. However, a player like Heath Miller is sorely missing here.

    It is not.

From Haley to the offensive line to even him, everyone has to perform and play better. Way too much talent with too little results.

Right now, being called "Paper Champions" is very fitting but key word is now. Next week, as you said, will be telling... but not just for him; the team no less.

I feel this team is at a crossroads. The Front Office has done all it can to load up this season and we still have not entirely seen the fruits of their labor yet.

Should this team fail next week.... oh boy.
    :worried:

Wow that’s not good. This kneeling thing is doing more dividing in locker rooms then uniting. I hope this doesn’t escalate into a riff between the two all year. That comment about “I don’t know if I’m good enough anymore” is troublesome. Normally you can write it off as Ben being a bit of a drama queen but not with all this retirement talk. If things don’t improve I see Ben retiring after this year. I said this a lot in the last two years we need to look at drafting a QB with our highest pick but we haven’t. I know we drafted one this past draft but he’s not Ben’s replacement. With the weapons we have we really don’t need a super stud at quarterback. It would be nice but look at KC. Well we have 4-0 Kansas City next weekend. Hope we figure some things out before then!

Chuck Noll always wanted coaches who were teachers of the game. He was a great teacher of the game himself. I hate to say it, but Bill Belichick is cut in the same cloth as Noll in that he wants teachers on his coaching staff. Coaches who teach the fundamentals with a dogmatic passion but who also are schematic strategists as well, trying to figure out how his X or O can best gain an advantage over the opposing O or X. With the exception of Munchak, I don't believe the Steelers have true teachers of the game. Tomlin isn't. Haley isn't. Butler doesn't strike me as a teacher of the game. Joey Porter? Puhleaze. I've been disappointed in Lake as I always thought he was a heady player and hoped he'd bring that same football IQ to coaching. Bottom line is this. I think we get outcoached far too often and in the past we've been able to ride the broad shoulders of Big Ben. I'm afraid those days are gone.
