Let me start by saying that I've pointed this out to people for the last 3 years now you're actually seeing it but let me explain why.

Ben has been a marvelous QB for us (at least on the field) but he was NEVER an accurate passer or someone who mastered all the throws. His footwork was always lazy, field vision and decision making suspect but what he always had in his arsenal was a big arm to match his big heart and toughness. He could escape a sack and hit Heath, Santonio, Hines, or AB on the move.
Ladies and Gents that's all gone and has been for some time now. I myself used to make excuses when I felt like Ben didn't have sufficient weapons but there are no excuses this season (look at one of my older post about the weapons we have and how under Brees or Brady our offense would be unstoppable.

The great ones always work on their deficiencies and alter their game because they have to or need to in order to remain relevant.
Jordan did, Nolan Ryan did, Tom Brady does. The great ones put in the work, something I've never believed Ben did enough of, not in the off-season (Brees and Brady play full halves in the 3rd preseason games, Ben plays a few series) not in game (Brady is up and down that sideline talking, Peyton ALWAYS studied on the sideline)
YOU CAN'T BE A LEADER AND NOT LEAD.
Case in point why does Ben take the veterans day off in practice every Wed?
Why is Ben calling out AB in the media as opposed to in the locker room?
Why is Ben telling you how he couldn't sleep after the TEAM decided to remain in the tunnel, how YOU feel is irrelevant, you made a decision don't ***** about it.
In fact why is Ben who calls out players for being a distraction telling you he's thought about retirement, he's taking it year by year. Bruh THAT MAKES YOU THE BIGGEST DISTRACTION. If you are thinking about it or if at a press conference after a game like today you say "Maybe I don't have it anymore" you my friend are DONE!
For everything Ben was he never worked on his footwork, accuracy in the short to mid passing game, decision making. He never built a repoire with players who were not necessarily his favorite targets, and now if you notice HIS BALL VELOCITY is gone, no zip on his balls.
The best thing the Steelers can do is let this play out. The game is actually shifting to more mobile QB's over your pure pocket passers cause that's what's coming out of college.
Dual threats are what's in. I believe we have a potential good one on our hands with Josh Dobbs or at least someone that can play behind a good line with a running game. A QB who just has to manage the game and not turn the ball over because the defense is good (we are a safety and Linebacker away from being REALLY dominant just need time)
That s what Dak has in Dallas, what Deshaun has in Houston. That s what Russell HAD in Seattle, and that's what Ben had when he came into the league many years ago but for all intents and purposes as it pertains to 2017 although he will win a few games here and there (the run game and D will be the primary reason).....Ben is Done!

Out of context, but he said himself in the locker room post game he doesn't have it anymore.

We missed a huge opportunity 2 years ago when we lost to Peyton in the playoffs.

Following his five-interception performance Week 5, Ben Roethlisberger said, "Maybe I don't have it anymore."

It was reportedly just a "stream-of-consciousness moment," but it is a telling comment from a player who considered retirement this offseason. Roethlisberger also said he needs to improve "everywhere." Averaging just 6.5 yards per attempt, which would easily be a career low, and with just two touchdowns in the last three games.

I said to my cousin that he looks as if his heart isn't in it. After that second pick six he had a thousand yard stare and didnt seem to have that fire in the belly. I think he and Harrison need to have a talk about what their goal is for the season. If Ben is all in then play with reckless abandon. If he is trying not to get hurt then he should become a game manager and they go power run from here on out.

When you can't avoid a pass rush, and your arm strength has diminished
and you have long developing pass plays. you have major problems. Ben and Steelers have MAJOR problems.

    I completely disagree with you.

From poor play calling to bad decisions made by Ben, we all looked way off today. Even if there were some good passes and plays here and there, you can't just write off the season after one bad game. Stuff like this happens, just look at the Penguins 10-1 loss the other night, they're only human. Now, I'll start to get concerned if this keeps happening.

I'm sorry that our defense had some issues today
I'm sorry if Ben made some bad throws
I'm sorry if Haley made some bad play calls
I'm sorry that Bell took off the whole preseason
I'm sorry that Ben is getting older

My point is that Ben may have had a bad game, but I do understand why you said that about him. But, he's still a good, veteran QB in this league. Just look at Eli Manning, another veteran, they're still winless at 0-5. We're 3-2, but say whatever you want, you can't put all the blame on Ben. The players didn't make the tackle to prevent the pick 6 from happening. This is a team sport and if the whole team's out of sync, then expect a loss.

On an extra note, let me ask you a question: Is Dobbs ready to play, yet? Also, Ben said that in his press conference because he was frustrated. Wouldn't you be frustrated after a loss like this?

Ben has been a physical freak of nature over the years. That's what's created the Big Ben persona and what we've all come to love about him. I don't want to think he's finished, but he can't carry the team on his shoulders like he once could. He's not a heady quarterback with an above average football IQ like Manning and Brady who played or are playing into their 40s. I suppose you could compare his physicality to Favre's who played into his 40s, but Ben doesn't appear to have that burning desire in his belly anymore like Favre did. As much as I'd like to disagree with the OP, I'm not sure I can with any conviction. Ben may REALLY be done. :frown new::frown:

I also read that he said that to an NFL Network correspondent after the game. It is telling. Very telling. When he was talking about retirement in the offseason, I brushed it off and figured we had two season left with him. At this moment, I'm certain that this is it, and ironically it's his own play that's going to be the thing that closes his window to win another title.

Yeah this when combined with his statements about telling the young guys what it means to be a Steeler says to me that this is it.

That's all fine. Now my question is how long do they keep him in there before we try someone new and not Landry Jones.

We just better draft a QB within the next year or two, if not too late already. Should have done it earlier to groom somebody under Ben, but our back ups are not the answer we need. Dobbs is athletic but did not come from a pure passing school and Jones just stinks. Maybe our 9-7 season gets us in the draft running next year.

Maybe the Steelers could have traded for Bonino instead of Pens letting him go to Nashville....at least it would have brought the right tough mentality to the team....just saying!!

The worst part of this is how good the D looked. Can you imagine this team with Brady, Rodgers?

I never said the season is lost heck I believe we make the playoffs but Ben is done. Is Dobbs ready to start, heck no but Ben is still toast.
Eli does not have the weapons we have. They have 1 WR who is not as good as AB, no running game, no tight ends.
Haley does not get a pass
    B

I never said the season is over I said Ben is done, I still believe we make the playoffs
Is Dobbs ready? Heck no but Ben is still toast, personally I would've Benched him today at some point.
Eli? Ha I live in the NY area and I can tell you that the Giants do not have the weapons we have. ObJ is good but he's no AB, Sterling Shepard doesn't have the physicality or potential of Martavis and their 3rd WR is old man Brandon Marshall btw all three were hurt today and all 3 might miss next game (OBJ is done for the year)
They have no running game, no tight ends and a horrific left tackle in Erik Flowers.
Forget if Brady or Brees had our weapons if Eli had our weapons they might be undefeated.

Back in the lab, no they need a team building retreat and Ben needs to decide if he is all in or playing not to be hurt because if he isnt then walk away.

I was thinking maybe Ben was hurt today because he seemed to have difficulty making some throws. As soon as I thought that he made a perfect 30 yard bullet throw. Is it like a golfer when he looses his swing?

The disturbing part was after one interception he just stood there and looked. He had no intention of trying to make the tackle. That's giving up.

Or how about the thousand yard stare on the bench next to Jones, hardly listening to Haley. No gathering the troops, no rah rah speech, just resigned to the fact it was a horrible game.

Ben should watch the Packers- Cowboys game. He would see what an elite qb plays like. Ben went from a top five qb to now a top twenty qb. Ben's window for another SB closed 3 years ago. Everyone on this team got too fat and lazy. If we win 8 games this year we'll be lucky.

Yes...and the play calling to get them down the field in 1:13. Competing to win at every level, but we will just play as if “the standard is the standard”.

Thing is, this really isn't recent with Ben. Yes he's looked better than today, but when was the last time he had a really GOOD game? I'm on my phone so I can't research well. But he's been average for how long now?
Aside from him throwing the five picks today, it seemed that almost every one of his passes were high. At least 2-3 of the passes to Brown were only completions because of a leap and reach.
Do I think Jones is the answer? No. But at this point I'd almost take him over Ben.
