With the talent on this roster, especially on the offense side of the ball. This is why in losing to
these 4-12 teams we do not get a bye in playoffs.

Great post. This is exactly what happened. On a side note, watching Rodgers work is a thing of beauty. Cool, calm and collective. He is the definition of a elite franchise QB.

You answered your own question (with sarcasm I hope?). The problem is just that...we have become accustomed to and even known around the league as playing down to inferior teams.

The same end around runs, holding was called a few times on a few players in GB.
The Steelers never got those calls. Big game changer plays too.

You can't quote the team as being "bad" because of one loss. The lack of movement on offense pretty obviously tired the defense out -- also, other plays, like Jordan Howard, have really good games.

It's one game. Let's stop overreacting.

If we get blown out by the Ravens, then we can start panicking a bit.

This 50 times over. We just played a really horrible game. We were out-coached, out-played, and out-smarted -- yet we ALMOST won.

Our defense hurt us on Sunday, but Ben was the real killer for us. His stats weren't bad, but dude missed an unbelievable amount of wide open targets -- more than I've seen in a really long time.

The Bears secondary was atrocious and made us look bad. It all started with the overthrow/missed catch to/by Bryant on the first play.

Don't you know the Steelers are held to a higher standard. They are not to experience what every other team experiences each season. This is why there are so many undefeated seasons in the NFL because it is so easy to win every game. I guess I'm left wondering why all the top teams each year don't go undefeated?

Maybe it's a team mental thing that makes them lose to inferior teams, or the head coach doesnt stress the importance of these games, he does have a stinky record playing against losing teams:

    Tomlin's 15th loss since 2009 to teams with comb .219 win %
    • with a combined record of 25-89 (.219). Nine out of 15 a TD or greater favorite.

      2009, Week 11: 6-3 Steelers lose to 2-7 Chiefs, 27-24. Line: Steelers -11.5
      2009, Week 13: 6-5 Steelers lose to 3-8 Raiders, 27-24. Line: Steelers -15.0
      2009, Week14: 6-6 Steelers lose to 1-11 Browns, 13-6. Line: Steelers -10.0
      2012, Week 3: 1-1 Steelers lose to 0-2 Raiders, 34-31. Line: Steelers -4.0
      2012, Week 6: 2-2 Steelers lose to 1-4 Titans, 26-23. Line: Steelers -6.5
      2012, Week 12: 6-4 Steelers lose to 2-8 Browns, 20-14. Line: Steelers -2.0
      2012, Week 14: 7-4 Steelers lose to 4-8 Chargers, 34-24. Line: Steelers -7.5
      2013, Week 4: 0-3 Steelers lose to 0-3 Vikings, 34-27. Line: Steelers -3.0
      2013, Week 8: 2-4 Steelers lose to 2-4 Raiders, 21-18. Line: Steelers -2.5
      2014, Week 4: 2-1 Steelers lose to 0-3 Buccaneers, 27-24. Line: Steelers -7.5
      2014, Week 10: 6-3 Steelers lose to 1-8 Jets, 20-13. Line: Steelers -4.0
      2014, Week 13: 7-4 Steelers lose to the 4-7 Saints, 35-32. Line: Steelers -3.5
      2015, Week 16: 9-5 Steelers lose to the 4-10 Ravens, 20-10. Line: Steelers -10.0

But I think it's more than having a "clunker" or two every year. I think it's been established, correct me if I'm wrong, that Tomlin coached teams seem to have a pattern of playing down to the competition. You're right that the Pats have a clunker or two on occasion, but the fact of the matter is that Belichick coached teams typically beat the teams they are supposed to beat. We can put lipstick on the pig if we'd like, but it's still a pig.

Exactly.. The Steelers are suppose to get better yearly and I would have assumed based on the personnel we have now this would be the case. On paper we look much better then last year. I will reserve further judgement because we are only 3 games in. They took a crap and continually and routinely do this yearly. Let's hope for vast improvement out of defense and offense..

But are we supposed to never lose those games? I guess we'll have to wait and see how the rest of the season plays out but weren't the first two games of this season the types of games the Steelers lose?

Im not saying theres no pattern there, they played awful in all 3 phases and its frustrating as hell and they have those games every freaking year. Im asking is that pattern there with every other team not named NE?

Its fine to want the same success as NE but until we have a near flawless QB like they do and coach as meticulous as they do, its a waste of energy. Better to hope we just have our **** wired tight by playoffs time and go on a good run.

Well, we have 2 more games this year that probably fall into that category, Colts and Browns last game of the season. So far, Id say we are 2-1 in the games that have given us fits in the past. We'll see how they do with those next two games.

First off I'll admit that I'm spoiled from when my teams are successful.......I want more :smiley1: Why shouldn't we expect more from this team....why shouldn't we expect our QB to be better, play better. Why shouldn't our coach be more meticulous ,they get paid a lot of money to be just that...I just see the talent on this team being wasted and a window closing fast. I think most if not all of our problems would be fixed and greatly diminished just by dotting our i's and crossing our t's and it just seems we don't pay enough attention to detail and the same mistakes rear their same ugly heads more often than they should based on our potential.
Like they say to be the best ,you gotta beat the best or in our case hope someone else does it for us. I don't feel it's a waste of energy trying to compare us to the Pats because I feel we have superior talent just not at QB and HC......even though some people around here don't feel coaching makes that much of a difference....lol. IMO I feel it's the coaching that usually lets us down the most in these games against inferior opponents. Yes the players make mistakes but coaching is supposed to overcome them most of the times. Yes other teams make mistakes but the good ones don't let 2 or 3 cost them a game. I mean just look at last years SB. NE had no business winning that game even with the mistakes Atl. made...remember NE had some costly ones too. They pulled it out because of stellar coaching and QB play when it counted the most.....I know we're not them but there's really no reason we couldn't/shouldn't be right there....

I'm not shocked either and I don't think anyone is. I think we're just all fed up with Tomlin coached teams losing 3 out every 4 games on the road in which we are the overwhelming favorite team. It's inexcusable and it costs us playoff position nearly every single year.

There is a reason Belichick is head and shoulders above the rest. Wishing isnt going to morph Tomlin into him nor Ben play like Brady.

Atlanta is a perfect example that Steelers arent the only team to play poorly. I dont think anyone would argue Atlanta is not a good team. If that was Pittsburgh that lost that game in that fashion, thered be about 5 members left on this board, the rest would be a stain under the bridge. Thats as bad a loss as you'll ever see. Blew our Tebow debacle away.

You'd think there should be some kind of compensation claim in that. Taken out of the players game cheque lol.

Oh I would definitely be a stain :smiley1:....and I hear what you're saying, but damn it why? What is the reason Belichick is above the rest....is he just that much smarter or does he put in more work/effort? I would lean towards the latter. He leaves no stone unturned.....I think a huge part of their success is accountability, any player that goes there knows it's " my way or the highway " and that breeds top performance and effort from his players every week. That's why they rarely slip up.....yeah they lose a few every year but never to the dregs like we do on a too consistent basis. They are more prepared and fcused every week and that stems from their culture that has been instilled by their HC and we could use some more of that from ours.
As far as Ben and Brady it's really quite smile and all I have to do to sum it up is use a line that Hines used to say.....hard work beats talent...when taken doesn't work hard.

I think its both but the later is definitely a huge part of it. I saw a Cleveland documentary and part of it was when Belichick was there. The guy is insane. This is what goes into breaking down 1 play:

Had Cleveland not left for Baltimore, I bet we'd be looking at the Browns differently now. Not the level of success hes had in NE, because I still attribute that more to Brady but Cleveland would have been a competitive team while Belichick was there.
