What about signing Brees if BB retires?

I think Brees will be hanging them up soon too. He and Ben may retire at the same time.

I floated this idea last season. I think a 4th would be well worth it for AJ.

He looked good to me, showed a lot of poise, delivers a nice football.

Bengals would probably looking for more than a 4th rd pick though.

Didn't the Steelers trade their 4th rd pick to the 49ers for Vance McDonald?

    :applaud:

    No more need be stated.

Plently of QB talent in next year's draft compared to a player that, for all intensive purposes, was essentially flash in a pan.

Need to prepare for the future and not go all in yet again. One only does the latter depending on how long their teams window is open.

For all we know, 2017 just may be Ben's last season.

Unlikely they would trade him to a division rival, AJ looked OK in 2015 behind a solid Oline but have you seen the Oline they have this year, Dalton has been running for his life in two games behind this line I dont think AJ would do any better behind this line.....

I still predict that we win the Super Bowl this year, Ben retires, Kirk Cousins become a FA and we go after him.

Would depend on what we are offering compared to other teams, I don't think the'yd take a lesser deal over AJ. Not like theyd be giving us Brady.

As far as the line goes, he wouldn't be playing behind Cincys line, would be playing behind ours and hes shown he can play pretty well.

Also, I really dont know any QB's that play well when running for their lives. Just a pet peeve of mine when people use that to try and knock a QB.

I doubt a deal takes place but Id welcome it.

We are in contender mode and ANY non-starter type QB would simply blow up everything that has been done to set our team up for success.

IMO we HAVE TO get a starting QB no matter what it takes. Cousins will be available if this is Bens last year and if it is, we better reach for him. If not him, a real quality starter, not somebody else`s leftovers.

I think that if the Steelers win the Super Bowl this year, Ben 100% comes back next year to try for #4 and to tie #12. Provided he's not severely injured in the process, of course. With an emerging defense, plus being able to tag Bell again and with Bryant under contract another year, next years O can be a carbon copy of this one and they would easily be the favorites again next year. He'd be stupid not to give it one more try.

Possible, but not likely. That's a lot of "IFs."

    1. If they win the Super Bowl
    2. If Bell is tagged and can stay healthy for 16 games and playoffs
    3. If Bryant can keep passing drug tests
    4. If Ben can stay healthy in 2018. With his history of injuries... he'll be lucky to play all 16 regular season games in 2017... much less 2018.

Interesting take. He always wanted to be the QB the most SB's in Pittsburgh. If hes that close to tying, he may feel compelled to stick around.

Sadly, I think its Bens body that is causing all this retirement talk and his desire to be able to enjoy his kids. May not leave him a choice.

I still think Ben is good for another season or two after this, and channels his inner Brett Favre - "Will he or won't he retire?" every year.
He's still as good as ever and is playing behind a solid oline and fairly safe play-calling scheme. But that's just pure speculation on my part.
