Steelers, Stephon Tuitt close to extension (rotoworld)

    Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers and DE Stephon Tuitt are "close to signing a contract extension."

    Pittsburgh does not negotiate during the season, so the two sides are running out of time. "We’re going to see," Tuitt said. "It’s ongoing. Hopefully, everything is close. Right now I’m worried about getting better every day to get ready for the Browns." Entering the final season of his rookie contract, Tuitt is expected to land at least $10 million a year on his next deal.

    sounds like 5 years 50 million with 15 M of the 50M in a signing bonus..........

    dumb question, but I don't get into the contract details that much.... If its a contract extension, I'm assuming he plays this year on his rookie contract and the new deal kicks in next year. I know Heyward re-structured so I wasn't sure where our cap would be if the figures mentioned above are accurate.

    Typically in cases like this the last year of the rookie deal is replaced by year 1 of the new agreement. I would expect year 1 to be a large signing bonus and minimum or near minimum salary.
