So with all these moves and the final 53 set I got looking at our numbers and I was shocked to see we have 5.9 mil of space according to overthecap.com. If that number is right wow cause I feel it wasn't to long ago our front office was back pedaling to get under the cap.......nice job.

Never thought I would see this day. Finally getting away from dead money.

Tuitt might eat some of it, but they have only a few days to get it done.

He has been here since 2001. While he gets the current praise, he also had a hand in the past problems.

Even when we had salary cap issues...he always got guys signed and was able to redirect money. Prior years proved that he was great at what he do.

Past problems? Like what? Our cap situation is by design. The FO as a whole chooses were to spend $ and were not to. I'd say the Steelers have done a better job that most teams at managing the cap. $ spent per win is probably as good as anyone. Lets pretend to agree for a second that we had cap problems because of mistakes by the FO... what would we have done if the those imagined errors didn't happen? If you think for a second the steelers would have gone out and signed some star players you are delusional. The steelers have and probably always will use their cap to keep players they developed and filling gaps with bargain FA's.

thinking back over the last 10 years I can only think of 1 mistake by the FO...and that was Timmons. IMO that was bone headed and now we are paying for it. Any FO issues are IMO more related to scouting and development. Our inability to find good corners and pass rushers has been a big problem. The coaching staff shoulders some of this blame.

Izzat the guy who looks like Mike Tomlin?

It's really nice to see this team have the ability to make moves without putting themselves behind the 8-ball. Gonna be an extra-exciting season!!!

Not sure where that number came from but OTC which is usually right on now show 2.8 mil as our cap space. It did have Bell, Wilcox and Haden on there so I think that number is correct.

Our supposed problems came from an uncapped year and the Steelers kept a Super Bowl winning team together.

2.8 is the number I found as well. Pretty tight. Wonder if they would consider releasing Moats or getting him to take a pay cut? I'm pretty sure he makes over 2 mil and he's not going to see a lot of playing time. He may even be inactive on game days.

11.07M certainly doesn't sound right. I don't follow the cap all that closely though.

The "problem" years came because of guys like Lamar Woodley..... who earned his big contract.... but failed to perform once he signed. FO can't control those guys that get fat and lazy.

    Wrong.
The problem years came when we went "3rd contract" with a ton of veterans who were the core of a Super Bowl Team, and we continued to restructure and kick the can (for good reason, we were in the last days of being a contender with that roster... god damn you Tebow).

It was the compounding of contracts like Ike, Hines, Troy, Harrison, Farrior, Smith, and so on....

The front office made the choice to keep that core together for as long as possible culminating in the 2011 (SB) and 2012 (Tebow) seasons. I think that was the right choice, but it was a choice that had consequences... which we felt in 2012 and 2013 as we began to unwind those aging teams, and quickly began an "on the fly" rebuild.

I would imagine both Green and Suisham are off the books next season?
