Something about Burns and Davis being rookies gave them a "pass" as well I believe. I doubt they get much of a pass this season or the year after. I remember almost nobody giving Jarvis Jones a pass after his rookie season...

The fans reaction will be dependent on Haden's play. If he comes in and is solid then everyone should be relatively happy. If he comes in and blows hard, then I'm sure he will be ragged on.

I'm sure expectations have something to do with it too. If they're expecting pro bowl Haden they will likely be disappointed. I do think he should be expected to be a decent enough starting CB for us tho if he chooses to sign. I know the injuries are tough, but if he's relatively healthy then he should be able to contribute in a positive way

I know Cockrell has made mistakes this pre season. Glaring ones.

But what has Sensabaugh shown? Legitimate question. Are there any reports how he did in camp?

I would prefer to see nothing longer than 2 years for Haden. Don't even know if that is an option or not.

Apparently he turned down bigger offers. Wanted to be a Steeler.

I'll agree it's high risk, but how is it low reward? Our secondary is terrible!

I've heard absolutely nothing, other than he was getting reps with the first team after Cockrell played badly.

Based on prior records, if we had to cut Sensabaugh or Cockrell, it's a no brainer to cut Sensabaugh.

I don't think he'll ever be the player from his earlier days. I think at best, we'll get a guy around Cockrells level of play.

Haden's last 2 years have been awful. Was it due to injury only? And if so, can he stay healthy.

    Million dollar question.

HA HA! I will gladly eat some crow. If this works out for us this will be AMAZING!

I can't remember the last time we have had a free-agent DB signing this big-time... maybe Donnell Woolford in the late 90s?

Lets face it, if Cody was a starting CB, his previous team would have not let him go. He is clearly a #3 or #4 CB.

If we are talking the Haden of 2 years ago, sure. But the 2017 version of him is not the same level. He has been below par for 2 years now. I think he might be worse than we have.

Have you seen him play in 2017? I'm not saying he's back to form after his groin surgery, but we really won't know until we see him on the field. Now that he's signed, let's all hope he's got a few quality years ahead of him.

It is nice to see the Steelers make the aggressive move and address the secondary. I believe only $7 million for this year is guaranteed, so they could just cut him loose after this season if he fails.

He is no sure thing to rebound, but he did have both groin injuries surgically repaired. This is a gamble, but one worth taking.

It's actually kinda more of a $7 million question if you think about it.

    27 million dollar question**

I sure hope we get better than cockrells level of play for all that extra money. I'm not expecting him to be a top 5 corner or a pro bowler, but he better bring more to the table that Cockrell does otherwise we will look really stupid

I hope so too but I think alot of people are excited about this signing because they think they are getting Haden pre 2015.

I want to love this move but im feeling snake bit. Steelers havent been too lucky in this area lately.

I wouldn't expect any kind of Pro Bowl season from Haden. I think people are getting too excited for this. The Steelers need to draft corners who can play man coverage, like Seattle did years ago.

The Raiders defense is worse than the Steelers, so they wouldn't whip the Steelers soundly they have one impact player in Khalil Mack on defense. The Steelers offense is just as potent as the Raiders if not more. FWIW the Raiders got swept by the Chiefs last season, the Steelers beat KC twice one being a blowout.

In Oakland? Have you seen the Steelers record when they play the Raiders in Oakland? Raiders would have won the second seed if Carr hadn't got hurt. Again... the Steelers wouldn't have sniffed the Championship game if Carr hadn't got hurt. Steelers offense would have went into usual turtle mode in the red zone against the Raiders even though their defense sucks. It would have been ugly... Raiders would have hung at least 35 on our D. Our offense would have been lucky to get 21+. That's reality.

My logical side says that I shouldn't be excited about this signing for many reasons already stated by many in this thread. However, I am a bit excited. As was pointed out earlier, he has struggled mightily the past two seasons, and supposedly this preseason as well. However in watching the tape someone else posted of his 2 int game vs. Baltimore last year I saw extremes of good and bad, and interestingly it seemed that his best play came in zone. I know that the mantra is that you need to play man to beat New England. My mantra is that it's more important to communicate and execute, no matter what scheme you employ. Our pass defense didn't get demolished in the AFCCG because we played mostly zone, it got demolished because most of our back end defenders communicated and executed poorly, and because we failed to pressure Brady. The Pats can be slowed by a primarily zone scheme if it's played well and is accompanied by pressure. I haven't watched enough of Haden to draw conclusions yet, but I wonder if his real value may turn out to be his very heady and quick-reacting zone play as opposed to his (possibly diminished) ability to play press man. I'll take whatever improvement we can get. The problem is - if we cut Cockrell, we lose the guy who did his job the most effectively vs. New England. Decisions, decisions....

And the Steelers would hang 40 on that defense, your schtick is tired dude. Everything is doom and gloom .
