If I'm Haden, I'd sign with a good team on a one year deal. If you play well, you might be cashing in big in FA next year.

    But, money is the motivator.

While it is likely Cockrell is the victim of a Joe Haden signing, he doesn't have to be.

As RPO has pointed out, it's dangerous to replace your starting CB a week before the opener. So why bother? Let Cockrell start, work Haden into the mix and when he's ready, let him take over.

Given the nature of the league now, and our weak depth at S, why not keep 7 CBs?

Make a tough cut somewhere else.

I would as well that's why the meeting later tonight in Carolina made little sense. Get Tomlin back home and get the deal worked our then they both can head to Carolina.

Doesn't Cockrell prefer the slot? Burns and Haden outside and Cockrell in the slot. As long as Gay never steps on the field again. I'm good.

Golson to IR, Allen to PS, then decided if gay is your backup safety and cut Golden?

Sensabaugh would be the only other candidate really.

Burns, Haden and Cockrell OR Sensabaugh would be the outside corners... in theory, Haden would take Cockrell's starting job.

    Gay is the Nickel
    Hilton is the Dime

Sutton is the developmental prospect on the 53 (6 CBs on the 53)
Allen is the developmental prospect on the PS

Haden means either Cockrell or Sensabugh is a goner.

If it is true he was playing injured and is all healed up now (there was a good excuse for his poor play), we should give him a below market offer to play with a winner. It says a lot when a player takes less money for a real chance to win.

Oh ok, I swear when he came to us he preferred the slot and we tried to convert him to play outside. I'll take my L on that. I like Cockrell though I haven't gave up on him. In your above scenario, Sensabugh has to go.

    The likely scenario.

We got Sensabaugh @ 1.3M/yr for 2 years and Cockrell @ 1.8M for 1 year.

I feel a little better with Cockrell incase of an injury to Burns or Haden.

Have to admit, this is exciting waiting on the Haden news. It shows how badly we hurt at corner. Our secondary is the biggest question mark.

It will be interesting to see how the fan base reacts to Haden's play.... there's a strong tendancy to blame new guys from outside the organization, while giving passes to those who come from within (especially high draft picks).

Cockrell and Mitchell have been whipping boys, when last year it was actually Burns and Davis who sucked hard.

Because Haden is the "big name" they've sought for years, I expect he'll get a similar pass.

Steelers have made more moves the last week, than they did all of Free Agency.

A broken washed up Haden is still probably the 2nd or 3rd best corner on the Steelers. This makes to much sense not to happen

This is troubling for a lot of reasons but there is 1 glaring one. We all know the Steelers don't make big moves with FA very often and even when us fans scream to the high heavens the team follows the same path and most of the time they know better than we do. The troubling part is everyone knows Hayden is struggling and now bitten by nagging injuries but the Steelers still were first on the wagon to check him out, that tells me Tomlin and Colbert have serious concerns about how bad the secondary really is. I was really hoping to hear one of Tomlin's standard excuses after the Falcons game but 3 days later and there is an article written in which he told the interviewer that he has some concerns about the defense. Saying he has concerns when he typically says things like, "we made some fundamental mistakes and will go back to the lab and fix it", or something to that effect was worrisome but having them show so much interest so fast in a high priced FA on the decline means what we are seeing on the field isn't an anomaly, the secondary is in more trouble than normal and the team realizes it needs help now.

Laconfora is reporting that Haden is open to one year deals as well as multiyear.

Not s fan of this move if it happens. High risk low reward.

Ill get behind it and hope he can recapture his earlier playing days but that doesnt seem very likely.

Jettisoning Cockrell and bringing in Haden is very risky. Maybe they feel Sensabuagh can give them what Cockrell did even if Haden doesnt pan out. From that perspective, perhaps I can see the gamble.
