I absolutely agree it's worth kicking the tires. I just think we need to be aware of the reality. He's not pro bowl joe haden anymore. He's injury depleted, cut from a team with plenty of cap space to keep him, joe haden.

Who doesn't make the roster from our DB group in place of Haden? Cockrell, Sensabaugh, or Gay?

Buyer beware. Cap space had little to do with cutting him.

I have no problem with him coming here can't hurt, but the talk on the radio is he will be a Cowboy at 4:01

Well the Browns absolutely wanted him to take a paycut. Hue Jackson is on record saying he wanted Haden on the team.

It's that balance of salary vs performance and obviously the Browns brass did t think his performance dictated his 11 million dollar salary.

I have no expectations that if Haden came to Pittsburgh that he would return to being a pro bowl player.

I am a Ross Cockrell fan but I know he can be upgraded. If, make that IF, Haden can be an affordable upgrade over Cockrell then I am for it.

Our SB window with Ben at the helm is closing and I would hope Colbert is doing everything possible to give us the best chance to win it all.

If true, why did the Browns ask him to take a paycut?

As I said I think injury history and declining performance are factors but had Haden only been making 6M I think he is still a Brown.

Haden is guaranteed $4 Million from the Browns. He can sign a vet minimum contract or a little higher and still make a lot of money. If his groin was successfully repaired surgically, I believe he can be an effective corner. Lots of players come back from that type of injury; Mike Mitchell comes to mind. He missed games in 2015 due to a broken finger and a concussion. I don't think he's injury prone, or washed up. If anything, missing games and being surgically repaired might mean he has less mileage than he otherwise would have.

He would be a welcome addition to the Steelers secondary.

The bolded is what concerns me.

There is likely not enough time to really determine if Haden is an upgrade. You have to take the risk, by cutting someone who is possibly still better than the injury depleted Haden.

Because they know that they would have dead cap space if they cut him. If you can get a guy to take a paycut to the point that it's only a million or so more than what they'd be on the hook for by cutting him, then it's worth it. That's what the Steelers tried to do with Harrison back when he left.

I think the fact that they asked him to take a pay cut means they fear he is a broken down CB past his prime.

Would you want to pay top dollar for that?

Not saying they shouldnt kick the tires but I'm weary of injured players.

Unlikely he is going to be a cheap signing since he was due to make 11.1 M this season:

By cutting Haden, the Browns will clear $6.7 million in salary-cap space, Haden was due to be paid $11.1 million ($4 million guaranteed) as part of a five-year, $67.5 million extension he signed in 2014. The release costs Cleveland $3.2 million in cap space this season and $3.2 million in 2018.

normally I would say no but I'm pretty much at the point of just going all out, I really think its ben's last year. If the pickups suck, well we are gonna tank anyways once ben leaves so whatever.

Haden had an avg/yr salary of 13 mil making him the top 7th CB in the NFL......

Yes they have the cap space but the old Browns badly managed the cap, roster, coaching staff....

Maybe, just maybe this New ERA of the Browns they are being more responsible... Coaching staff upgrade and trying to clean up the roster/cap !!!

Haden is NOT the Probowler he was but IF his surgery was a success and he's healed he's a instant upgrade over cockerel gay Hilton sensabaugh........

    Salary must be right

The Steelers will come up short, as they almost always do when it comes to free agents from other teams.

I know he hasn't been good the last two seasons and if he had been great in camp, he'd still be a Brown, but the Steelers are a mess at cornerback. Nothing that can possibly help is going to come without risk at this point.

No, not necessarily, but other players have responded well to this type of treatment. Le'Veon Bell had surgery to repair a torn groin in March. To answer your question of who gets cut, I think it would be Sensabaugh.

I think they should sign him and cut Ross and be looking for a way to get Gay off the field as well.

Yup! Look for the Steelers to announce it at 4.

I think this is good. But it is a RISK.

Blast and RPO are making points against it and i get it

But I'm glad Colbert is being very aggressive right now.

I think there was a drew Rosenhaus connection to this. I think the fact he is still close to his family in Cleveland. We are a SB contender.

If this is a short term and affordable contract, I like it.

There are 3 other teams interested in Hayden, unlikely we can compete salary wise for him....

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora first reported Tuesday that the Browns were "aggressively trying to trade" Haden. Following the release, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs are "expected to have strong interest" in signing Haden. Meanwhile, ESPN's Josina Anderson reported the Dallas Cowboys might have interest depending on how much money Haden is seeking.

Good get him in and get Ross out and then call Revis and let him take Gays spot. With Artie and Joe on the outside and Revis in the slot we can now play man/zone coverage and send our DL towards the QB the way it should be .
