Watching laundry throw a pic on the 1 yard line I'm starting to have Bubby flashbacks.......what life is going to look like whenever Ben retires

Stupidest play call of all time. We'll almost.

I get that it's pre season and you want to see your backup QB do some thing, but they should be coaching to WIN. Even if it's the pre season.

    Run the damn ball.

Otherwise he had a good first game back, 21of 31 163 yards 1 TD and 1 pick, tolzien on the other hand had 123 yards zero TDs and 1 pick, this LJ hate fest gets more ridiculous each passing day...........

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. That play basically lost the game. JuJu could've put more effort into knocking the ball down, a ball that should've never been thrown. Unlike many others, I actually like Jones & think he's an adequate back-up. Unless your Bradshaw or Ben, it's extremely tough to play QB in Pittsburgh. He does OK if he's not in the redzone, he needs to work on his redzone ball security...

I remember he played OK against NE, but did the same thing in that game which killed us. LJ reminds me of Mike Tomzcak. Very little zip on his passes. In the redzone, cannot afford to be floating balls here & there...

I thought the same, but Jones said it was his "dumb mistake". Maybe he's honest, maybe he's covering somewhat for a receiver's error, I dunno.

If you go back to that NE game (not pleasant), I think LJ was far from the main reason we lost.

    http://www.espn.co.uk/nfl/recap?gameId=400874506

LJ wasn't entirely innocent by a long stretch, but the collapse of the run defense and unnecessary penalties were what killed that particular game.

LJ is the QB and he controls the play call. He probably thought the inside DB would back off and protect the flag route from the inside guy. The DB did not and the inside WR did not run a outside route to the pylon .

I would like for LJ to have a check with me route combo and I am pretty sure he did .

Run the WR type route where the inside WR comes behind the outside WR this protects the inside WR and forces the inside DB to fight across or forces a switch. If fight across then use the natural rub and Joju has that simple pitch and catch. If the switch then juju runs the fade.

That combo route really can't be stopped if ran correctly against that coverage .I am sure LJ knows that as a Vet and knows he didn't really get them in the best route combo instead he tried to gun a throw into a window that had not been created .

Not exactly sure how the Steelers do practice to create those windows , but obviously those windows did not get created .

Landry threw a pick in the endzone in that game. But, that was really the worse thing he did. Throwing picks in the end zone is the worse, other than a pick 6.

You take a minimum, of 3 points off the board.

But, all things aside other than the pick in last saturday, That was the most confident and best I've ever seen Landry Jones play. Makes me feel better about our chances should Ben miss a few games.

Landry is no long term answer. But, I feel he can get you and make you at least competitive in a 3-4 games stretch if he had too.

milton didn't block his man to start with and he was on LJ in an instant. juju is supposed to run a slant past both but his first juke move or step if you will was to the outside and that was fine but it was slow and when the slant part of the route was to be run he squared it off not even entering the end zone but accross in front of the goal line. bad route, bad blocking which created a bad throw.

I found it utterly ridicoulous, that Watson marched them all the way down field, via pass catching and running and he doesn't get a chance to run the rock in from the 1 yard line.

Thought Peter Carroll was calling the plays for a minute.

Landry Jones is the least of our problems, IMHO.

I thought Jones had a fine game, that TD throw to Grimble was a nice pass/catch combo. I was actually surprised he played so well after missing a lot of practice.

It's only tough if you're no good. We had not had a good one in between Bradshaw and Ben

I think Landry is our best bet. Just need him to hold the fort 1-3 games Ben will be out this season. For whatever reason our defense plays better when they know Landry is starting lol.

He is not THAT bad. Landry's career rating is 82.8 with 7 td's 6 picks, 60% completion.
