My basic question is this, will we consider the 'Roethlisberger Era' a success with only 2 Lombardi's added to the trophy case?

I know I would be tarred and feathered for asking that question in many championship-starved cities but this is Pittsburgh, we're the City of Champions! LeBron could leave Cleveland hanging for the second time in a decade and people would still have to love him for bringing the first title to Cleveland in 52 years...in any sport.

So what do you say, will we be content with two or should we consider anything less a bust?

'Content' isn't a word you see much in the internet age, so...

For me personally, I wouldn't consider it a 'bust', but it would be disappointing not to get 3 - more for reflecting how much Ben has brought to the team, and cementing his place in Canton, than anything else.

I think the Steelers are fortunate to have 2 Lombardi's during Ben's time. A lot of good QBs get lucky to have even one let alone 2 and have gone to the SB 3 times. Marino has zero and was only there once, I guess the point I'm making is it is a success anytime you can win 1 championship and 2 during a career is successful in my book. I'll defend Ben here for a bit, I think we should have had more but for the first half of his career he had the worst o-line in football and managed to do well, then the second half of his career there is no room for error, we have one of, if not the worst, secondary in the league, if the team doesn't score on every play against good offenses the game is essentially over.

I don't know how anyone could be dissatisfied with 'only' two Lombardi's on Ben's watch.

He certainly played poor enough to lose to Seattle, and if JH gets pushed oob at the one or Holmes drops a pass, they could have lost to AZ.

In that alternative universe BB is Big game choker, and that would be dissapointing.

After winning 2, I really thought he was going to win 4.

2010 was heart breaking to the point it took the team a long time to turn it around.

Just gotta find a way around the Patriots.

Fans should be satisfied but won't, think about the teams that have never even won a super bowl. Let alone 2.

Ben, really could have easily won 3, up until Mendenhall fumbling the ball, against Green Bay, steelers had a legit chance to win that game.

This year's team should be the best offense he's had. But, he doesn't have near the defense that the 2008 and 2010 teams had to support it.

I don't think the offense is consistent enough to get to the Super Bowl again in Ben's career. Add the average defense with below average secondary and it makes matters worse. 3 Lombardis in the Roethlisberger era would be nice. In my opinion, the window has shut. Steelers best shot was from 2014 to 2016. The Steelers could have easily been competitive against the Patriots and Broncos during these years if it weren't for injuries and major inconsistency on offense. The injuries do carry some of the blame, but Steelers had Ben, Bell and Brown healthy for the AFCCG... Bell gets hurt and the offense can't move the ball vs. an average New England defense. Go figure. The offense froze up in the red zone the week before with Ben, Bell and Brown vs. Chiefs. Steelers offense is not good enough when the playoffs roll around. It's a trend.

Two is great for any quaterback; Hall of Fame or otherwise. It proves that one is a legitimate champion and/or one of the best at his position.

For Ben though, that third one will cement his legacy as one of the best of his era. Given the fact that the likes of Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady were from his era, Big Ben has never really been in that discussion among them.

Furthermore, outside of winning another ring, I am sure Ben wants to quell any other doubts he does not belong given the attention the likes of Drew and Aaron get; doubly so since one has one ring apiece and has not been to another since.

Mendenhall... Every time I hear that name it's like nails on a chalk board, just because of that play. Oh, and countless other fumbles.

Personally, I think Ben will play at least two more years. With this high powered offense, and some good potential in young players on defense, I see two great chances at another ring. So I find it hard to answer this question right now, because the story has not been finished.

That play was a total whiff on a block by the backup TE/FB, if I recall correctly. I may be wrong.... I lost a lot brain cells mourning that SBXLV loss.

Disagree... I think this is Ben's last year, no matter what happens. I hope he can win a Super Bowl and go out like Bettis did, but it's unlikely.

Yep, DJ. And then he had no awareness that the ball was right behind him. I still struggle with this.

Missed block or not, Mendenhall always carried the ball away from his body and so loosely, always made me nervous.

And Bettis had a storybook ending. There are not many players that play their whole career without making it to the SB despite many AFC Championship appearances, then, to say he's going to retire until a second year QB (Big Ben) promise him a ring in his hometown. Not to mention his LAST game at Hienz Field he went off against the DETROIT Lions. You can't think of a better ending. And now that it's all said and done, and even though we all just about had a heart attack, the fumble against the Colts makes the story all that much better, only because we won though, of course.

I have not, but look at what Ben has done for Pittsburgh and the organization, and now look at what Mendenhall has done...

We will be barely content IMO. If you go a ways back, ask how many we would have if we drafted Marino? I say at least two more.

Somehow that negates his abysmal performance in the Super Bowl?

Isn't a big part of the inconsistency Ben related?

Regarding the defense, I do believe over the last 6 or so regular season games, they were one of the top defenses. And that was without Hayward. I'm thinking they should grow on that.

I'm not saying that. Everyone could have played better. Just don't compare Mendenhall to one of the best QB's to ever do it.

By the way, Bens first INT of the game Chris Kemoeatu got bullrushed causing ben to get hit as he threw. If he would've had more time it would've been a TD, go look at the highlights, Wallace had three steps on the corner. Everyone made mistakes, just a tough game in general.

Both bad blocks, DJs whiff led to the fumble. Matthews hit jarred that ball loose.

That fumble still makes me want to throw up. As to the original question, I think 2 Lombardis would be considered a success, but I think if there were 3, we'd want 4. :lolol:
