Fort is quick like Shazier.. Red and him should end up the backups.

Agreed..... Red isn't as quick physically but his football smarts and reads are so quick he gets to the ball fast.

Johnson makes it due to his ST.... Right now that is

agreed!!!!! Still not sure I like cutting DHB. It is very hard to find a savvy veteran like that. Plus he is like the ST captain.

Your confusing both the competition and the safety position. Stafford was competing with Golden to be the #3 safety, who backs up up both Mitchell and Davis, the loser of that competition would be the #4. That's how Tomlin and Lake have run things the last few years. There's not a SS backup and a FS backup. There's a #3 safety, and a #4.

Fort is the only one who can be asked to do what's Shazier does.... whether he can do it well enough to be worth rostering is up for debate (thank you preseason), but I'd like to keep Fort's athletic ability... given Shazier's injury history

Why DWILL back? And are you projecting Walton to backup Hargrave?

If Conner is going to be out for any length of time, I could see them bringing DWill back.

Other than that, I can't see any way he is on the team.

No I'm not. I get and see how they rotate in backup safeties. Part due to position flexibility and part due to neither Golden nor Dangerfield have distinguished themselves as a solid FS or solid SS. There's not much different in their skill set though Golden has the "Vet" advantage.

Stafford is clearly a better SS than either. That clearly upgrades the SS position.

The last two starting FS for the Steelers weren't roaming centerfielders but more like heat seeking missiles looking for the carrier and hoping to hit him hard enough to stop him, dislodge the ball and put a little fear in there. Dangerfield better fits this style than Golden. That's why I had the position listed as I did..... Mute point now

Not trying to speak for anyone but I'm thinking he has Alualu as his backup NT......... I was pulling for Hooks but it looks like that isn't happening

Lol Stafford "is clearly" better? Watch the Titans a lot do you? Stafford was so good he managed a vet minimum deal with no signing bonus....

Because I think Bell is going to hold out until week 1. Conner is injured. Fitz isn't good enough. And I don't think Knile Davis is a useful RB.

Because I think true NTs are irrelevant.

And still clearly better on D than Golden..... And ST....... Speaks not to Staffords greatness but Golden's ineptitude

Sadly I agree........ Except the NT part.....

I prefer a traditional 4-3 alignment but I'm old and stubborn and besides..... We rarely use any traditional alignment anyway. Let's Nickel and Dime them.....

We've seen plenty of elements of 4-3 in our Nickel fronts. And it's more or less our base package now.

i'm not sure we are done looking for safety help. i'm still waiting on allen to make that move and even see some hilton. might be worth the try in preseason just to see what we have in these two. the new golden i know little about.

as for fitz, i still like him and think he has some worth to us.

Actually I was a fan. As Troys days are winding down and Shark was being handed the reigns I was fearful he couldn't handle it and began pulling for the underdog Golden.... I was encourage by his growth but he plateaued and his limitations and poor coverage skills shines bright last year. I'm not a fan of Stafford but believe he's an upgrade over Golden but again it's a mute point now.

I also like Mitchell but think he's overpaid. He's an Avg FS. Davis will be a good SS.... But maybe never an All-Pro SS. Time will tell but any upgrade on the safety positions starter or backup must be considered. It's our weakest position group.

I think Bell will return for the last week of pre season, no starters play in game 4 anyway............

I'm pulling for Fitz. Macs report that he's lost 20 lbs and looks quicker is a good sign. After his struggles last year on ST he needs a solid camp and Preseason to beat out the vet Davis. Initially I have Davis in Fitz out.........

For sure... a bit slower on the first step BUT towards the ball carrier is better than a fast move into the wrong gap... Football IQ has its benefits..
