What about Kaepernick for backup QB?

Kaepernick is probably better than 95% of the back ups in the league. He's probably better than many team's starters. The Steelers or other teams will probably call him if they become desperate enough along the injury front.

The only way teams won't call Kaepernick is if team owners colluded against him in the same way they appeared to collude against Ray Rice. Maybe the NFL knows that the bottom line took a hit when Kaepernick took his stance?

It's funny how NFL owners choose who they will or won't collude against. One day the NFL might face a legal battle on that front.

I believe Kaepernick is better than Jones and would give the Steelers a better chance to win games if Ben misses games.

And we have a POTUS (really, just a POS) who disrespected every man and woman in uniform by disrespecting John McCain on national TV: "He's only a hero because he got captured. I like people who don't get captured."

Last I checked, Kaepernick never said anything as horrific as that.

Kind of difficult, given the man that this country put in the WH, to get our panties in a bunch about a QB.

He POTUS or Mcain have nothing to do with football. Take your politics to a political board. For the record cain got shot down and was a POW and is a hero. Still has nothing to do with football

Unfortunately, almost anything to do with Kaepernick is going to be political. Point is, we can't complain about a QB's kneeling at a time in our country's history like this one.

According to Mark Twain, only 3 kinds of people can rightly use the word "we": A member of royalty, a newspaper editor, and someone with a tapeworm". Essentially, nearly 1 of every 2 voters and possibly members of this MB would disagree with what you stated and your perspective "at a time in our country's history like this one". The Eagles had a song a while back called "Get Over It"! Check it out. As far as Kappy is concerned, actions have consequences and people have a right to disagree with him. He also had become an ineffective one trick pony as some coaches like to point out.

The owners have a right to not hire someone who would be bad for business. His anti-American stance would definitely be bad for business. I don't want him anywhere near the Steelers.

Actually John McCain has just found out he has brain cancer. Terrible diagnosis to get for sure. When it went to my papaw's brain he started falling and getting forgetful and from there it wasn't long at all until he died. Not sure the actual prognosis on Senator McCain but at his age I'm sure brain cancer is probably pretty devastating.

Sorry to hear about your Dad BFT.
I saw McCain had been diagnosed with Brain Cancer. Living down here near Raleigh NC, we hear a lot about successful Brain Cancer operations and some people return to work even. Just depends on the type of cancer, the stage it's at, many things. Either way hope he recovers. My brother died of lung cancer in 2012. I was at Ducenfields, a Steeler bar I can see from my front porch watching a game when I came home from the funeral. Heard the Owners Boyfriend had just went into remission. Told him abut my brother and he was all apologetic. I said hey, I am happy for you. Wish everyone could beat it. Just glad you did. He gave me a free coke. I don't drink

I saw that, shame. He had a very strange incoherent line of questioning about a month ago, bet you it was a result of this.

Hopefully he can beat it but odds are not good. Would be a tough finish to a hard life. :flag:

Alejandro Villanueva and Colin Kapernick on the same team. Yea, I can see him kneeling just once. The next game he may not be able to walk. No thank you. Don't want him anywhere near our team.

I think if Ben goes down, Kap could be our savior. He ripped the Patriots apart several years ago. I would trust Kap more than any of our backup QBs if Ben goes down.

I think the problem is that the "no politics" rule seems to get invoked typically in the same breath by folks making some political point or other.

Kap obviously causes some natural blurring of the rule, obvs.

This thread has probably run its course, I think.

Based on another post, and an inane comment somewhat farther up, someone seems to be looking for attention.

I would like to think that Villanueva served for the betterment of his country, and not a cloth that has a bunch of designs on it.

I thought the exact same thing. I was actually watching that live when it happened and laughing hysterically at how wonderfully awkward it was. Now I really think it was just the cancer affecting him.

Kap opted out of a 49er base salary of 14.5 million, he wants starter money not backup money.

The Seattle Seahawks have passed on signing quarterback Colin Kaepernick, at least for now, due to financial reasons.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the Seahawks and Kaepernick were "apart on money" when they met last week.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll met with reporters on Friday and was asked why the team chose not to sign Kaepernick.

"He's a starter in this league," he said, per Fox Sports' Andre Vergara. "We have a starter, but he is a starter in this league and I can't imagine somebody won't give him a chance to play."
