I think there is 0 chance Hamilton makes the team.

I like this. Id want to see what Coates can do in preseason, see if he's over his hand issues both physically and mentally. If he is, Id take him over Hunter, he was quite effective before he got hurt.

Yep. I'm not as sold on Hunter as others are at this point. Coates showed a ton of potential before the hand thing happened.

coates is having trouble running and cutting. it's not just the hand that is giving him trouble but the groin at this point.

I think the roster fight breaks down this way:

    Givens: Brown, Bryant, and JuJu

    Fighting for a spot:

Hunter - never played with a real QB. He was a 2nd round pick and I think he is going to surprise.

Coates - has to prove that he can catch again, both mentally and physically

DHB - He is the vet. He adds great value on special teams and in experience, but very little as a receiver.

Rogers - Is probably the most likely of the guys to take a roster spot.

Ayers - There was something we liked, but has to prove his worth on special teams in order to win spot IMO.

3 of these guys IMO make the roster.

To stave off more tremors, I was re-watching last season's MIA-PIT playoff game. Our first two (85- and 90-yard scoring) drives had lots of very quick-release, very successful passes.

EDIT: ok, there was also a healthy dose of Bell. But the short passes, with the ball coming out quickly, were really effective.

i'm hope they are leaning towards which ones will help us in the future. we only have coach mann this year. which ones benifit the most staying with him this season, that will help us more once he's gone. DHB is 30 years old. he's not the future. coates and ayers are draft picks. eli has done some good things but hasn't really turned that corner for us. to me he's more of a marcus wheaton type player.

I agree. If I was picking right now....

    AB
    Bryant
    JuJu
    Rogers
    Hunter
    DHB

The odd guys out? Ayers....I just haven't seen enough to put him on the team yet. With him having PS eligibility, I think that may be the route they go. Hopefully he doesn't sign somewhere else when that happens. Coates....I'm just not sure I can trust him at the moment. Yes he is fast, but mentally and physically I'm just not sure.

Why Rogers? Most experience guy in slot until JuJu takes the role.
Why Hunter? I think he is the best option in case Bryant gets hurt. He never has had a real QB, this year he does.
Why DHB? The experience/coach aspect of what he brings. He may very rarely dress, but he can help on the sidelines with pointers, etc. that Ayers and Coates cannot do.

It's a tricky one - he showed definite flashed when he was on the field that might attract other team's attention. But at the same time, I don't know how many other promising WRs in Ayer's mould there are sat on practice squads. I'm guessing probably a few. So maybe he's safe to stay there.

Definitely think people are counting on Hunter too much. It's not as if having Ben will automatically fix everything. He has difficulty separating and apparently has lost a step because speed was an issue in Buffalo. Maybe the ACL injury is the reason.

He's worse than DHB, at least DHB has speed, can block and ST value. If not for the fact that Colberts FA signings rarely get cut, Id say he wouldn't even make the team.

heck hamilton had DHB numbers last year and more TD's. he blocks too and is 4 years younger. hunter and hamilton had better seasons than DHB. i did read hunter was being used in the slot as well as outside, so they are moving guys around to learn. it will be a competition. nobody after the top 3 are shoe ins.

I think Sammie Coates & DHB better bring their A game to training camp,
Especially if Bryant doesn't fall off the wagon. Not enough footballs to go around.

Brown, Bryant, JUJU, then whatever can be for the 4th, maybe rogers. All I know is someone is going to get hurt, suspended, turn into a xenomorph I dunno.

Yup and to the point of being almost unstoppable....but then for some reason we get away from it and start throwing the ball down the field on 3rd and short especially. Control the clock, limiting our Ds exposure will lead to more consistent performances on both sides of the ball...

Cobi and DHB had the same amount of TD's, 2, according to Pro Football Reference but neither of their numbers are worth **** and Hunter hasn't played a snap for the Steelers but his numbers were only marginally better than DHB's on a team that only had Sammy Watkins in front of him. He'll be much lower on the totem poll here.

With similar production from all three, DHB's intangibles make him stand out from those 2.

I'm almost certain that Cobi is a lock to be cut.

And I spit in your eye for making me defend DHB :lolol:

I don't get why Coates is in the conversation? It maybe unfortunate but all I see is dropped passes, that's it. Outside the top three it's anyone game to me. DHB may have only 6 catches but he gets distance and once he's gone he's gone. I like what he adds to our roster and his ST participation. As long as he's healthy I would keep him on the roster and pop him in and out like they've been doing.

The rest ( Rogers, Hunter, Hamilton etc ) can compete for what's left.

Sammy, appears to be Tomlin's pet project, and that's almost never a good thing. Too many drops at key times for me. .

Coates was far and away better than DHB until he screwed his hand up. Coates plays specials as well and has more upside at his point than DHB does. We've got a roster full of young guys that can play specials. If nothing else Coates is a younger version of DHB not as fast but stronger. I appreciate everything he has done but I don't see DHB on this team after training camp.

Well Coates has always had the potential, I agree, but I can't get past all the drops. I wasn't comparing the two I would keep DHB for that special unknown factor. Coates should battle it out with the rest of them for the slot. Two of the what eleven(?) will be gone and I think Coates should be on the 1st bus out just from his performance alone last year.

I don't want to be teaching a WR how to catch.

We'll find out in camp if he can catch with crooked fingers. Before he got hurt, he was doing very well. Drops were clearly a result of injuries.

He also dropped them in college, so their is a history with Sammie Coates, he better bring his A game to camp.
Just for the record I am not so sold on Hunter. DHB is a very valuable ST person.Don't sell Ayers or Rogers out yet.
It should be a very interesting training camp at the WR position.

not saying hamilton will make it but they used his strength of blocking for the running game too. he was a very good blocker for us downfield. the coaches knew it. DHB is too. so is bryant.

let's not forget the ability of bell to split out, which could be an option with conner or even davis catching balss out of the backfield.

our O-co has so many options at hand to make game planning hell on other teams D-co to game plan for. if done right. oh the weaponry.:hehehe::smiley1::cool:

The key to who gets cut is the QB. I think LJ is a bad QB and the WR'S that work with him the most are more likely to be cut ...They will not cut the draft pick, Eli is a lock as well,of course they will keep AB.I also don't think they will make DHB prove his worth working with LJ....

I also think they will back Bryant as he was showing well..So those are my 5 and I think we keep 1 more out of the rest ...Whoever can avoid playing with LJ the most has the best shot...
