Knile Davis is now wearing #34

Most thought it would happen but I will miss D Will.

I'm telling you right now that the first time I see him run to the line of scrimmage and do a spinmove I'm gonna have a seizure inducing flashback to another certain number 34. LOL!

 

Mendenhall wasn't the greatest... but I can think of a lot worse.

 

The Steelers have had a few pretty good backs wear #34. A funny story about Frank Rogel who wore it back in the 50's:

Head Coach Walt Keisling had Rogel run the same dive play for the first play of the game, every game to the point where fans chanted, "Hey diddle diddle, Rogel up the middle." One day, Art Rooney suggested that they try a pass instead. Keisling didn't like the idea so he had a player intentionally jump offsides. QB Jim Finks threw a TD on the play and it was called back. That pretty much sums up the Steelers before the 1970's.

 

Walter Abercrombie comes to mind as well as RB #34. He did have a few good games in 84 and 85.

 

Definitely gonna miss deangelo williams, but when you're the oldest rb in the league, you pretty much know that the writings on the wall......
That said.... Davis has always had eye popping measurables..... 4.3 speed, size, power.... I've always been intrigued to see what would happen if he put it all together..... behind a top 5 o-line, he may be the perfect backup...... our rb depth actually looks extremely good these days

D Will time has gone it was time to move on, he's almost 34 and was injured the last 2 seasons.

 

There is the greatest player that wore this number, unfortunately he didn't play for the PGH Steelers.

He does have great measurables which leads one to ask why hasn't he had better success. KC had a good OL and successful rushing attacks. So did GB.

On the flip side he has had success on Kick Returns. With most KO going deep or thru the end zone how much of a weapon will this be?

His roster spot isn't a lock..... He and Fitz will battle. I believe he'll beat out Fitz but you just never know. Conner is DWills replacement on the field.

We need all the help we can get on kickoff returns. Maybe he earns a spot there?

 

There was a time when Noll's first play was Harris up the middle. Everyone knew it was coming. It usually didn't work. Noll was asked why he kept doing it. He responded: "If you can run the ball up the middle, there is no reason to run any other play".
