Looks like Greg Warren has been released. Notice said the reason given was Failed Physical. Now we know why we drafted a long snapper.

Article says doctors advised him not to play due to a previous injury.

When KC was asked about Warren and if he is healthy he said "yeah, right now."

He has had a long career, but they must have known something was up for awhile?

The Steelers front office knew what they were doing when they drafted a ls? Shocking!

    This was Greg's statement:

I would first like to thank the Steelers organization, coaches and training staff for their help and advice over the last few weeks," said Warren. "I had full intentions of playing this upcoming season, but in light of new information I've recently received from my doctors relating to a past injury, it has been determined that trying to compete in the 2017 season may be a risk to my long-term health. After discussing this with the Steelers, we have decided it would be in everyone's best interest to release me at this point."

So Ben is the last of Cowher players? And we almost lost him this year. Yeah, they knew about greg going into the draft. Lucky for them ...they could get a replacement of this caliber. Watch out about news about bryant?

Thanks for all your service, Greg. Holba must have had kryptonite in his pocket.

Thank you Greg for all you did!!!

I hope this eases the pain many felt after we drafted the highest ranked LS in the draft.

An era is quickly coming to an end. He had 3 AB appearances. Only Ben, Deebo and Gay remain from the 08' SB Roster.

Thanks Warren for 11 strong seasons! Best of luck. :steelflag:

I suppose the argument will be that they could have signed him as an UDFA.

I don't agree. No guarantee he doesn't get drafted nor is there any guarantee the Steelers could sign him if did go un-drafted.

Apparently he is the best, I have no problem with the pick.

No, the problem that I had with the situation was that...they had just re -signed greg to a contract. So, it made no sense. If we, the fans, had known about Greg's injury then there would not have been an issue. But, lets not harper on this subject. Greg, you were a warrior for us...for a long time. Thank you and I pray that the injury is taken care of and you have no long lasting effects. You made steelernation proud!!

If we, the fans, knew about Warren's injury, then so would every other team that was looking for a long snapper. So I'm not sure why you're seeing an issue with that.

Thank you sir, you had a great career.

But, I'm not gonna lie, I feel much better about the 6th round pick of Holba :lolol:. That one was a tough sell without having knowledge of the Warren injury. Would he have been available in the 7th? Who knows, the 7th round is a great time to pick special team guys (kickers, punters, LSs) so you are taking a risk. Either way kudos to the team for going to get their target.

Godspeed, Greg Warren. I don't ever recall his snapping being an issue during his long Steelers career.

Greg Warren goes down as one of those unheralded but absolutely vital players to Steelers championship teams. Let's remember him, and remember him well.

Hey, all a long snapper has to do is toss a football upside down.

i still don't think LS would be that hard to replace if we didn't draft him in the 6th rd. remember we replaced warren twice (ratkofsky) in his time here and once clear through a SB. every college team has a LS that could have been available. it is what it is though and we have a decent one here now. personally i would have looked for a safety in that round. but hey that's me.
