This guy seems like he may be in for a bit of a free fall on Thursday night.

I had casually watched him over the past 2 seasons and thought he was pretty good. Thought he had a great combine.I know coming out of the combine I had seen some draft sites list him as a Top 10 pick and perhaps even threatening Lattimore as the #1 CB. I never quite saw that but thought he was a top 15 pick.

I know the Steelers have showed alot of interest in him which I thought was strange bease I never thought he would fall that far.

Well the more tape I watch the more I question my initial analysis. He quickly started t looking like an overrated prospect.

First what does he do well. Incredibly athletic. Great closing speed. Great make up speed. He may be the best tackling CB in the draft and overall very willing in run support.

At Alabama he only played the left side of the defense which means they did not have him mirror the opposing teams #1 WR all the time. Most likely a scheme thing.

He gets beat alot initially off the line but because of his athleticism, he is able to avoid catastrophe quite often.

Still for such a highly regarded prospect, he gets beat deep alot. I'm not sure if it was for 2016 or for his career, but he averages 19 yards per completion given up. Not good. I know even Deion was criticising his technique at the combine.

Been watching alot of tape this morning and I wouldn't be surprised if Humphrey falls out of the 1st round or atleast falls to us at #30. But, would we want him?

Not that it falls squarely on him, but in the 2015 and 2016 championship games, 3 tds were given up to his side on pick plays. Looks like the slot corner took the blame on most of them, but where's the communication? The TDs always occurred to the slot WR but to the outside of the end zone but Bama was always in man coverage. Where was the pass off?

What say you? Should he fall to #30, do you think the Steelers would take him?

In my "predict the 2017 draft" mock I had him fall all the way to New Orleans @ 32 and us passing on him for Tak McKinley.

When I looked at the predraft visits for CB needy teams it seemed a lot of teams were doing more due diligence on that big bunch of pseudo-first/pseudo-second round corners just under Marshawn Lattimore and Conley. Adoree' Jackson, Awuzie (rising) , Kevin King, and Tre'davious White were all getting more love.

I had New Orleans taking him at 32 to stop the free fall at the end of the first round but tbh, that might be my final tweak before draft day. I may have him fall out of the first round and Awuzie or Josh Jones come into the first round, as NO's secondary could use any help. Including a hybrid like guy in Josh Jones.

I mean I think with as high strung as The Steelers and The Saints are about being beat deep in the secondary. That both are gonna pass on him.

My issue with Marlon is his inability to properly track the deep ball; doubly so given his superb recovery speed and athleticism.

Even in the 2016 FBS Championship, Mike Williams and Humphrey had both went neck and neck but Marlon did not showcase "elite" ball tracking when thrown on the deep ball. While Jordan Legget helped Clemson, much of Alabama's failures went to Humphrey's lack of ball tracking.

Ulitamtley, sometimes such traits do not go away. I understand Carnell Lake has done well recently with Artie and Sean but Marlon is much different from Artie. Hoepfully Carnell has some form of plan to assist him with this issue early and often other than going 1v1 with Antonio Brown if he is the pick. Otherwise, Marlon may surely disappoint.

Better to reach for a quality player then grab a free fall. reminds me of Jarvis and his fall...

I don't think this is a DeCastro situation at all. I think this is a case of the media draft pundits catching up with what most NFL teams probably know already - Humphrey is a H/W/S CB prospect who played for a great defense that usually pressured QBs enough to cover his flaws. He has a really, really big problem with vertical routes in man coverage. It shows up on pretty clearly on his tape IMO. I think he has the tools to succeed as a zone corner playing with the action in front of him, or in man coverage where there is usually safety help over the top like Cover 2 man. The biggest "highlight reel" play that I saw on tape was an interception that he made in zone when he was covering the flat and saw the QB staring down a guy who was making a deep out cut. He turned an jumped the route beautifully for an interception, and the QB had no clue that he was going to be there (I can't remember which of his games that was in). That's how he needs to be used IMO.

I don't see the value at Pick #30, especially if we're trying to be better at man coverage.

I know it's not entirely fair to compare but Milliner the CB the Jets drafted was a better prospect and he was a bust...so I'm more than a little leery. If one of his knocks is tracking the ball then no thanks. You can have all the athleticism in the world but if you can't find the ball...nah I'll pass.

Yeah, I've seen from multiple sources that he can stick right with guys and still gives up too many plays cause he can't play the ball when it gets there. That scares me.

Zero. Guard remains an undervalued position. Then again, Jarvis was the first LB taken in 2013.

I watch a lot of Bama football. He is better than milliner. He is young and depends on his athletic ability to much. He tries to bait the qb and he pays for it. I don't think he would do that in the NFL. He isn't afraid to tackle. He has the man skills we need. I would be as happy with him as any pick since Ben.

That said,. No way he falls that far. Be surprised if he get within 8 picks of us
