I would not mind double dipping if applying BPA.

If not, i suppose Josh Jones and Carroll Phillips are as good as one can get though.

jones and obi roaming the field with davis, burns, cockrell, sensibaugh, griffen and shazier could create many headaches for offenses. either of these safeties could creep up near the LOS or drop in coverage with their speed. phillips and dimmick as two newbies to bring along with bud JH and chickillo. dimmick ran way better than most thought he would at his pro day. 4.69 for a guy 273. all this in addition to the FA's we just added.

to me drafting these two safeties would not only give us speed and size at the safety spot but it doubles as almost adding two more shaziers to the defense. :smiley1::cool:

The only thing I hate about it is double dipping at S. I think it is overkill for where we are. If this is where we are at, we would be better off to trade out of the pick either into next year, where we might need the extra picks to move up and get a QB or for more 2nds and 3rds this year.

if webb can become more than just a pocket passer. he makes bad decisions when pressured because he doesn't move around well. thats my only concern about him. guys that are statues don't seem to fair well. the arm is there though. peterman is more of a fearless guy in the pocket to me. he has a good arm too.

why overkill? they become hybrid safety/ LB'ers in this defense. speed, size, coverage ability, tackling ability and can be moved around to keep defenses guessing all the time. outside the box thinking in this evolving hybrid defense. nothing is saying we can't still draft a QB next year as well, we carry 3.

I like Peterman. He is smart and doesn't turn the ball over.

It is overkill with us taking Davis last year. One yes, Two is too much. That is just my opinion.

Not a fan of taking two safeties, they would be better off taking two OLBs or two CBs.

Webb threw 37 TDs with 12 picks not all his fault playing on not such a good team: Petrman had only 20 throwing TDs with 8 picks. Heres is steeler depots report on peterman questioning his arm strength:

    The Bad on Peterman

    – Struggles with accuracy on out-breaking routes
    – Doesn’t take a ton of shots downfield
    – Inconsistent footwork when throwing; sometimes has “busy feet” as he begins his motion
    – Eyes and feet tend to get out of sync when scanning the field, sometimes leading to off-balance throws.
    – Peterman did not perform any straight drop-backs when starting from under center; only play-action or sprint-outs.
    – Lax ball security when running the football; leading to several fumbles
    – Sometimes leaves the pocket before allowing a play to develop; potentially missing big-play opportunities
    – Lacks elite arm strength
    – Takes unnecessary hits by not sliding on running plays

I don't watch a lot of Pitt or Cal games unfortunately. And I usually avoid scouting the QBs but what do those two teams run offensively a spread or pro style? I was thinking Cal ran the spread and Pitt ran a pro, but I could be wrong. Just curious.

You are correct. Cal runs what they call the bear raid offense which is get in as many plays as you can from the spread. Peterman is more NFL ready.

webb coming for a visit. i don't think there is any question they are keeping their options open regarding taking a qb in this mid range day two.

I think scouts have it right when they say this about Peterman; My sense is that Peterman is not ready to start next year, but would be a solid third to fifth round target and developmental project (end quote) I will say this, We will be looking for a franchise QB to replace ben not a player who is more of a backup than a starter candidate we need to get a prototypical QB ideally 6-5 with a big arm who can learn all he needs over the next 1 or 2 years.....

isn't he landry? spread offense qb that had to be taught everything about the pro game and fundamentals to play that way. threw for a ton of yards and TD's and has the size. webb i'm talking about. :smiley1::cool:

Exactly. Spread QB pretty much have to relearn the position to be successful in pros. I forget which QB it was but he had never taken a snap under center until he got into the NFL. They have some success in a west coast system but that's not the Steelers system. Need a pro style QB for our offense.

Possibly. I just can't wrap my head around these guys have to learn how to take a snap at the NFL level. Jones had to do it.

just don't like the Peterman pick. I didn't see him much at pitt but did at Tennessee and he isn't a nfl backup let alone starter

That what they said about Mariota, peterman comes from a run first offense so he has a lot to learn about a pro offense as well, the good news is he wont be learning it in pittsburgh....

Mariota is also extremely mobile which is why his game works in the NFL. The spread guys that can run stand a lot better chance then the pocket passsers from a spread offense.

I compare Peterman to Gradkowski when he was drafted only Grad had a lot better college stats at Toledo than peterman has at pitt.....
