Barwin is no spring chicken, with Harrison on the roster the Steelers need some young guys to rush the passer.

They only do that to cornerbacks , Boykin and Gilbert.

How does Zach Brown not fit a gaping hole also.

    It could be likely.

I've seen a few articles suggesting Hamilton will struggle to make the team next year, and that was before the Hunter signing.

I don't see ILB as being as much of a gaping need as edge rusher. I think Vince will be a respectable 1st and 2nd down ILB to pair with Shazier, and I think pulling him off the field is passing situations and putting an additional DB on the field would be preferable to how we left Timmons on the field in passing situations last season. I also think that Matakevich would be a solid backup 1st and 2nd down ILB for Vince.

That said, Zach Brown may be an upgrade, and I'd be happy if we pursued him (as long as we don't overpay).

Or mr hands of stone dhb

Also we really don't know what we have in coates. He started off fairly well, but completely dropped the ball after game 4 or so. There's also no guarantee Bryant will be reinstated. I'm not saying he won't, but until it happens and he's CLEAN we can't count on him.

The thing I like about the Brown idea or even Te'o, Hodges or Minter is by signing one of these guys it allows us to grab one or maybe even 2 OLB's from this talented draft class. I like Brown a ton the more I read on him the more he fits our hybrid system.

miscast when they changed to a 4-3, he's better as a 3-4 OLB than 4-3 DE. Doesn't matter, he signed with the effing Rams. Workout warrior, age wouldn't have been much of a factor when splitting reps with JH92 while their new OLB draft pick gets situated.

Im not so sure they are looking to bring in a ILB. The Hightower thing made no sense from a money standpoint that I am wondering now if they were thinking outside the box and planning on moving him outside. Steel103 thinks he could play outside and Bill did use him there occasionally.

Well how many ILB's do we usually carry, it feels like we are short. I know there are a few ILB prospects that are interesting but like I have said in many of my posts the draft is deep in other positions of need I would rather not draft a ILB.

we want shazier like coverage and speed, timmons like thumping, troy like ability of playmaking from our inside backers rolled up in one. we want that guy lining up next to shazier. i don't see him in this draft. the only way i see this even becoming close is obi and jones the two big fast safeties being used as hybrid type LB/safety. 225 lb. guys, over 6-1 running 4.4. now we have something. they could play multiple roles that throw a clinker into offensive game plans.

Well, I had thought of him as a better 3-4 OLB prospect than ILB prospect when he came out of Alabama, but I'm figuring that I must have been wrong about that, or BB would have been using him as an edge rusher all along.

Oh it is there I just don't think he will last to us, Zach Cunningham from Vandy. This guy is fast, and is a tackling machine. He had 40 TFL in his career and he has improved in pass coverage, I have said this before he is my David DeCastro of this draft. If this kid don't make it to us I am starting to come around more and more to OBI, of course I still like the not very popular pick of McCaffrey as well too.:smiley1:

Same reasoning I had. And while BB doesn't walk on water, I think the Steelers probably dodged a bullet, if that was their plan.

Part of me wonders what if they were right, though? And missed the coup of the century.

I think Zach Brown is going to be a steal for someone and would love to have him here. I think the NFL is really just now clicking for him. Wouldn't mind Minter either. We think we have a good one in Williams but what happens if when the spotlight is on him he can't perform up to what we think he is capable of. To me if you can get an insurance policy on a 2 year deal you take it and if Williams pans out you now have a solid rotation at ILB. Plus as much of a Shazier fan as I am we need a good third guy.

I agree with all this, I have not really watched Brown but all that I have read makes me believe he would be a great fit for us, jmo. As for VW he has shown improvement every year. I am not going to trash him and I hope if he is our guy he steps right in. I am also a big Matakevich fan(some remember from the draft) so if we don't sign a guy I am rooting for him to be a starter. Shazier has been just plain out right awesome but we as fans are always holding our breathe about his health. This is why Brown makes sense to me, he adds depth at both inside and out as we are jumping between 3-4 and 4-3.
