Personal opinion is that he doesn't get past pick 19, Tennesee and Dick Lebeau. But all of the arguing aside, he does fill a myriad of roles on defense, plus return man. Depends on who else is there, of course.

Doubt he falls that far and not sure I'm willing to move up to the teens to get him.

    Fantastic athletic talent though.

I am personally okay with him being the pick at 30 if all options are gone by then.

Within the same vein.. for him to get to us, safeties like Marcus William and more specifically Obi Melinfonwu will have to exceed expextations at the combine for Peppers to fall given teams like the Bucs and Titans will be yearning for some secondary help; safety especially.

Even so... if he is there at 30 and all options are not available.. you would take him based on BPA.

I might be misunderstanding your post, do you think Williams and Melifonwu are first round candidates? I like both of them but think they are 2nd rounders. The bolded phrase is unclear....

Imo, I would not like Peppers at 1:30. I don't think he can help us in the secondary and his role at LB is more suited to a 4-3.

With LeBeau's love of tOSU players, I can see them taking Marshawn Lattimore with their first pick. Jamal Adams to the Chargers and Hooker not far behind in the 10-15 range. Either way, two safeties will be off the board in the top 15.

Melinfonwu is literally going up and down in some mocks. Some have him early second round and others do see him as first round material. Heck, one mock I read had Obi going to Tampa Bay if I recall.

Should he have a great combine performance, his status as a first rounder may no longer be in question given the fact that hybrid players like him are now in high demand.

Now Marcus Williams... I did say he could be one but now am unsure. A bit of a "Boom or Bust" type to me.

Oh baby he's boom all the way :lolol:

I just don't see Obi as a hybrid, I think he's a safety all the way. Tall yes, but still a safety. I could care less about the mocks, they change those with every rumor that goes out there. What do you see?

With Obi? Kam Chancellor... but with more explosive capabilities and range to boot.

I believe he can be hybrid. Never mind his size, he has a warrior mentaility when attacking the ballcarrier within the box. His willinginess to tackle in addition towards his fundementals can easily make him such.

Again.. more testing is needed.. but should he do well.., expect him to rise on some teams boards; those who need a safety doubly so.

I agree and I see a ton of Steeler fans mocking Peppers as our first. I would be surprised to say the least.

Given the fact he is now listed at 5'10 1/2... boy oh boy... that puts him squarely in safety territory.

Now I am having second thoughts. Someone else like TJ Watt just got more appeealing for me BPA wise given this new information.

It's time to make a move up the boards. We did that with Troy and Holmes and they helped add to the Lombardi collection. I'd support doing that with a guy like Peppers. We've got an additional 3rd rounder to negotiate with since the comp picks can be traded this year.

Well... should Peppers blow the hinges off tomorrow in the drills... he is not out of the question. 19 reps on the bench is good.. but he needs to steal the show tomorrow.

As for trading up? Not too sure if you wouod want to trade up for someone like Peppers. I would consider Jamal Adams but he will be long gone by then.

Agreed. Theres no one that is sticking out to me that is worth trading up for, yet. And its very difficult to trade up from 30. Have to give up a lot to get to 15 and forget about top 10.

Giving up to even snuff top 15 would make me gag. Top 10? As you stated, forget it.

Pittsburgh is a team that thrives on stability. Over fifty years worth of success is not going to be put on the line for a process that is well known as a crapshoot.:lolol:

Howver... one player does intrigue me; far more than Jabrill did and has been since last year; Obi Melifonwu. Quite big by Steelers safety standards... but Tomlins ethos of "Height-Weight-Speed" kicks into play here. Same goes for Evan Engram now.

If you are referring to the "MoneyBall" level of drafting and how Pittsburgh drafts.. here is the original post.

Other than that.. that just about sums it up for my thread posts. Unless I posted something based on HWS.. I will need more time.

    .... Found it... I think..?

Nope, I found it. Much simpler than that dissertation above :lolol:

Look for players with three cone times under 6.9 and short shuttles under 4.4

I added it to the Combine Chart post.

I like Peppers but I just don't see him in our defense. I am looking for that Earl Thomas type of
safety. Malik Hooker would foot the bill but I expect him to be gone before ten. There out there we just have to find them.

I think anyone who doesn't think Peppers is a legitimate playmaker worthy of going in the Top 20 are way off.

Is he the best S in this draft? No.

Is he the best LB in this draft? No.

Is he the best athlete in this draft? Close, but probably No.

Still, when you consider EVERYTHING this guy is a legit athlete and player and when put in the right defensive scheme he is going to be an All-Pro for years to come. I think he is a SS but could survive as a WLB or even inside as a 3-4.

The mere fact that he is going to workout both days at the Combine is impressive.

I do not expect him to last anywhere close to #30, but if he does, and we pass I would be pretty upset.

He isn't Ryan Shazier, but I remember alot of the same arguments in his draft year that he wasn't big enough. Anyone who watched him play at OSU knew he would be a star in the NFL. I feel the same way about Peppers.
