this cracks me up. fire Butler. DL was the defensive coordinator for most of those losses and hes considered one of the best. maybe its the payers they have. maybe Burns. Cockrell and Gay arent man coverage guys.

the coaching staff has an advantage we dont. they actually get to see these guys practice everyday. im sure they practice man coverage and i would almost bet they are getting beat in practice.

dont get me wrong. the zone defense is the worst possible defense to run against Brady. i would much rather see the dbs getting beat one on one, but my guess is the coaching staff was hoping the front seven would get a little more pressure on Brady.

the bad thing is, Brady doesnt like being pressured up the middle. he can avoid the outside rush. the Steelers dont create much pressure up the middle, unless they bring the middle lbs and when they do that that opens the middle of the field for the fast wrs.

my question, and we will never know, what made them think it would work? I mean, even when you had a superior defense it did not work. Now, you have two ROOKIES in your secondary, no pass rush and you believe playing zone behind it would stop or even slow down Brady.

I don't know how they would think the front four would get pressure? They haven't all season. Harrison, Hargraves, Tuitt and Dupree did not show enough for me to rely on just them four to get pressure. When they did show dominance it was against the Browns and maybe the first match with the Chiefs.

Do you think the reason why we didn't change what we had been doing because of the amount of youth on our D. I am not just talking about the three rookies either. Bud, Shazier, cockrel, tuitt, are all fairly new players. What they were doing was working defensively so I suppose the coaches did not want to switch the whole thing up on them. I am not so sure switching from a zone to a man D would have done a whole lot. The youth on the team doesn't allow us to play multiple schemes and do so fluidly. they must have thought that they should stick to what they know and do that well. Instead of doing something they are not familiar with poorly. Just my thoughts. The Experience was huge for the young guys.

A bit removed from the game emotionally I think the GM is more to blame than the D coordinator. Blitz a lot and get torched deep. Sit back in a zone and get burned. There just are not enough impact players on the defense. When a 38 year old player has to come off the bench to replace a former 1st round pick, that says a lot right there.

What has he done that lebeau wouldn't accomplished?
Tenn's def, with way less talent, ended up #2 overall this year. Wow!!

Burns IS a cover guy as is Justin Gilbert. Both 4.3 or 4.4 guys. NE's wr are not blazing fast either. Hogan runs a 4.8 !!!!

If this is true, please share the ideas I had earlier in this thread ( I think page 4 or 5). I think I would have an easier time stomaching this loss if I understood the gameplan. More specifically, if players were not executing their particular jobs, or if we did not have the personnel to effectively execute a scheme that would have worked better. Thank you.

You dont need speed to beat that 3 deep cover 3 we were in, brady hit logan for 26 yards, and his next pass he hit for 22 yards, both while we were in cover 3.......

I have no problem with the zone but only sending 3 rushers on 21 of 45 defensive plays? I'd rather send the blitz and if you get burned because Brady found the open guy in time then oh well. Better than sitting back and getting beat because he had too much time.

Guess Houston's and Minnesota's defensive talent are far inferior to our own. :lolol:

    It was a crazy comment.

They've got 2 excellent OLBs that can get after the QB... we have none, yet

They've got a true shutdown corner... we don't... yet

They've got one of the best Dline in the game... we do too... but he missed half the year.

Tennessee is a really really good defense because it's in its prime. We aren't... yet.

What you fail to realize or care to admit is that we get out coached week in and week out. Whether, its Tomlin, Haley, or Butler. We have great defensive talent but a horrible coach. Tenn defense, man for man is not better then ours. These same defensive players coached by DL would've performed much better. Don't even get me started on Haley. We kept 2 lber coaches instead of going after k.Greene. Another, missed opportunity. C.lakes should've been fired years ago. Talented players + BAD COACHING = SITTING HOME WATCHING THE SUPERBOWL

What you fail to realize is that you simply don't know enough about what you watch on sunday's to give an informed and detailed opinion on the outcome. So you rely on silly and/or generic explanations.

Anyone who thinks we get out coached "week in and week out" while going 11-5 and reaching the AFC Champiosnhip game... is an epic moron.

finish low draft high helps. who did they play in that big turn around? this means a lot too.

we are not too far off either but what we may gain at OLB we may give up at ILB and CB with age.

i still see safety as a major concern. davis yes but the coverage of mitchell is very average. i know people like our players but upgrading them can certainly payoff there could be growing pains but with the limited time we have with a franchise qb at the helm, we just can't wait. we need a corner, safety, ILB and OLB at least in this draft.

I agree and watching all the dual threat RB'S on tape the past few days we really have no choice but go to a 4 man front ..We have to get smaller faster guys on the field for coverage so we need a front 4 that can take up blockers and rush the passer ...Lots of Teams are now bringing in FS types at LB in the 5-1-5 they are also looking for more CB types to move to Safety ...The Steelers still value the LB position more than the DB positions and that must change...They showed a stat on ESPN yesterday where New England had 5 DB'S on the field 88 % of their defensive snaps for the year ...This is the future and as normal Coach Bill is already ahead of the curb as the rest of the NFL tries to catch up..

I actually would have killed for Dan Quinn to come here and be our DC but obviously he had bigger plans. I think Rex Ryan actually wanted the Atlanta job and they gave it to Quinn insted. Great move on their part.

there are many ways to do it instead of changing scheme totally. coach bill as you call him isn't the first guy to come up with this. SS types that can cover work out quite well at ILB too. if they tackle well, cover well and can run, you can call DB's and LB'ers anything you want, but i want all that and brains too, then we can just call them good football players. as far as the front i think we can still do it with 3 down guys like we have and a dupree and another OLB that is less in the mold of a DE and more in the mold of a faster bigger OLB on the other side. speed, brains, length and strength, i'll take all day long.

Biggest thing I took from that article is a willingness to adapt. Are you looking to win games and doing it by any means possible or are you looking for validation that your way is the right way of doing things? I think we need more of the former and less of the latter

I know NE didn't come up with it ,but 88 % of the snaps means that's their bread and butter Defense....I don't think you can stop the dual threat Offenses with 3 down lineman.. I also don't think you can beat them with Run stopper LB'S or run stopping Safeties ...The RB'S are getting so good at splitting out you need LB'S and Safeties who are very good in coverage, if not you are in trouble...
